During the most recent call with shareholders, which took place a few days ago and we wrote about it in detail here, Apple representatives boasted that sales of the Apple Watch were up 50 percent year-over-year, compared to the same quarter last year. Apple hasn't released specific sales numbers for some time, but that doesn't stop major analytics companies from estimating smartwatch sales numbers. And that on the basis of several different and independent sources. One such analysis was provided by Canalys, thanks to which we can get an idea of how many smartwatches Apple actually sold in the last quarter. And the number is very interesting.

According to Canalys, whose estimates you can read in the original here, Apple managed to sell nearly 4 million Apple Watches. The estimate refers to the 3rd calendar quarter (ie the 4th fiscal). According to their information, the general surprise is the huge interest in the LTE version of Series 3. Both operators and Apple were surprised, which had to respond to higher demand by temporarily increasing production. Canalys data assumes that of the 3,9 million Apple Watch units sold, the Series 3 LTE version accounts for roughly 800. It is necessary to take into account that the analysis deals with the period between July and September, and the new Apple Watch is available from mid-September. This is a great result in such a short time.

The prospects for the next quarter are more than positive for several reasons. The first of these is of course Christmas, when sales as such generally increase. Further sales growth may occur as the number of countries where the LTE Apple Watch Series 3 is available expands. A surge could then appear in China when the government there resolves problem with blocking new eSIMs.

Apple is thus currently the number 1 player in the so-called wearables market, which in this case includes both smart watches and various (significantly "stupid") fitness bracelets. It is thanks to them that companies such as Xiaomi and Fitbit are placed on the list. The other players are then far behind. As for the segment of smart watches as such, Apple's position here will not be threatened by anything in the near future.
