Reviews of the Apple Watch were not very enthusiastic, and Apple watches also seem to appear rather rarely on wrists. But in the first year, according to several analysts, they sold about twice as many as iPhones in their first year on the market.
Apple Watch went on sale on April 24, 2015. A year later, analyst Toni Sacconaghi's estimate from the company Bernstein Research, according to which twelve million units have been sold so far with an average price of 500 dollars (12 thousand crowns). Also Neil Cybart, director Above Avalon, focusing on analyzes related to Apple, presented its estimate: thirteen million units sold with an average price of 450 dollars (approximately 11 thousand crowns).
Both estimates put the Apple Watch at twice the success of the first iPhone's annual sales of around six million units (Watch was more successful even during the Christmas season). On the other hand, the iPad was a third more successful, selling 19,5 million units in the year since its launch.
It is clear that similar comparisons are only indicative, as in all three cases these are devices with significantly different characteristics, and Apple was not as well-known and successful as it is today when the first iPhone or iPad was launched. However, it can be concluded from them that from an economic point of view, the first new type of Apple product since the death of Steve Jobs was not even remotely a fiasco, as some claim.
However, they also point to the technical and other shortcomings of the watch, such as the need to charge it on a daily basis, sometimes insufficient processor performance, slow applications, the absence of its own GPS module and dependence on the iPhone. Others criticize the Apple Watch even more deeply, saying it's just not very useful. JP Gownder, an analyst with the firm Forrester Research, said Apple needs to put more energy into building a comprehensive ecosystem of services. According to him, the Watch needs to become an "indispensable thing", which they are not yet.
The Apple Watch is still in its early days, when waves of criticism have descended on almost every new Apple device, whether it later became significant or even revolutionary or not. Still, those who currently use the best-selling smartwatch (Apple Watch sales accounted for 61 percent of the market last year) are mostly satisfied. Company Wristly conducted a survey of 1 Apple Watch owners - 150 percent of them said in an online questionnaire that they were satisfied or very satisfied with them.
Apple is trying to increase the likelihood of a bright future for its latest type of device on several levels. Continuously introduces new tapes, in one year released two major versions of watchOS. It's also trying to make them less dependent on the iPhone. Since June disables slower non-native apps and - according to The Wall Street Journal's unspecified sources - is working on adding a mobile module to the second generation of the watch. Other media are speculating whether the second generation of the Apple Watch will be thinner or whether the improvements will be more related to internal components and whether we will see such news already in June or in the fall.
So what is it for? :-)
I will make it easier for you to spend a few hours searching and reading articles: completely useless. :)
You obviously know how to use the internet, is that so hard to find?
Is everyone happy with them? This is certainly evidenced by the huge number of sellers on large (Czech) bazaar servers who are trying to get back at least part of the cost, mostly after wearing it for a while. I'm writing this just to bring some objectivity regarding customers and their satisfaction with this Apple product. It seems to me that Apple is producing more and more things where I think "that's not enough for me = I won't buy" ... specifically for watches, the negative factor for me is the battery life ... I often get up at 6 in the morning and don't go to bed until the next evening, which is many times more than 36 hours in non-stop operation, regardless of about 60 calls per day... I use the phone as navigation (waze), of course SMS and sometimes the Internet (rather only local news, as I don't have time for anything else). An alarm clock on the phone is a matter of course, a calendar and notes... a voice recorder and a camera (mainly when confronting the scumbags, otherwise almost not at all = so I need to rely on it 100%) and also e-mail and a music player. If I bought a watch, it would only last me a few hours = considering the ultimate "real use" videos on youtube where a guy makes 1 call with the watch in a day, gets 2 emails and one reminder and at 5 pm it has 56% battery and comments on it so that it still has more than half of the battery and that it is super durable and certainly enough for everyone. For me, in 4 hours in a combination of Siri "call XXXXXXXXX" and then a call ... to stick it on the charger, which is really great for a watch. So I'm only limited to time with my oldschool non-smart swiss made watches ... and I learned to take my phone out of my pocket (iP 6s) really quickly ... although I'd rather have the watch :) ...
large (Czech) bazaar servers certainly have enormous informational value when it comes to satisfaction with a global product. try to share your discovery with someone from Apple, you will be taken care of forever
It won't be :-) Some observations regarding, for example, Apple things in iOS, such as the possibility to set "Do not disturb" after days, or at least a week / weekend in the bug report, as a feature request, stink to me perhaps from the beginning when Apple introduced it, and somehow I don't see that I should be taken care of :-D
I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're responding to
…try to share your discovery with someone from Apple, you will be taken care of forever
Well, yes, but it wasn't on the big (Czech) bazaar servers...
I completely understand your need to question my "source" and thereby throw the whole claim down. Rather, I mean that Apple products cease to be products that determine demand, but products that are determined by demand ... see demand satisfaction with iP SE. At the price of higher revenues and turnover, Apple (willy-nilly) ranks on the same level as LG and Samsung (although 2 years ago it was quite far from these two). I'm starting to miss the leadership that made Apple "something more", which partially justified the higher price. Currently, the Apple Watch is really just an overpriced toy for the ORDINARY USER.
You don't invent the light bulb every other year either.
or should you and Jara Cimmrman yes.
Maybe a higher battery capacity?
products that determine demand...
the leadership that made Apple "something more"...
is that your battery capacity?
I am impressed
It is necessary to put things in context, that is, at least in the case when you are trying to argue logically. I buy a watch and in 3 hours after charging I can put it on the charger again (iPhone 6s has 12-20% battery capacity after 30 hours). While a NORMAL USER, i.e. probably a child or a dude who just needs to play around, after half a day the battery is at 56%... and it seems OK to him. I don't think I'd work 10x as much as others, but for a higher load than mooching, it's a mockery of Apple to me.
well, I thought it might make for an interesting debate.
but it slips as usual into the list of percentages, hours and minutes and a function. Bye
Do you have 12-20% after 30 hours from full charge? incredibly.
Exactly. Tel. bought new. sometimes navigation, otherwise really 60 ++ calls per day ... sms, calendar, email ... I don't leave the house without a charger.
I think it's almost heretical to say something about Apple here :-) alas, I'm right. The premium manufacturer had the last premium product 5s, since then it has only been beaten by the competition and apple is trying to get a second wind. Admit it to me, there is nothing revolutionary about the ip6, nothing that cannot be surpassed by second-tier Chinese manufacturers, and there is absolutely no reason to buy new products. The iPhone is fast, but in everything else it is only average, sometimes sub-average - tests showed a lousy camera, LCD only 330ppi, battery life 1 day, impractically "sliding" design, wireless charging is missing. I have everything from Apple and lately I've noticed the mediocrity more and more, just try competing products. The only thing that is unique and irreplaceable is iOS, otherwise I would have had a galaxy s6 edge a long time ago, it is a perfect phone, which with its hardware surpasses the iPhone in all respects (with the exception of the already insignificant clean performance of the CPU). It has a beautiful design, sits comfortably in the hand, a top-notch LCD, a top-notch camera, the battery lasts for two days, wireless charging, nfc, excellent processing and, on top of that, a wow effect.
And in my opinion (I'd very much like to be wrong), the iPhone 7 will be a big disappointment.
Well, I would be very satisfied with the watch... It's a promising start, but still with a lot of bugs... It would require much more powerful components, as applications lack raw computing power, of course, a larger battery. Not that the endurance is not enough for me, but it would allow the addition of a GPS module and possibly the possibility of running applications in the background, which would make working with them much easier. The thickness doesn't bother me in any way, even if it looks bad on my smaller hand, a watch over a centimeter thick is not the right one. I would also welcome the presence of a barometer, the possibility of connecting smart straps (possibility of fitting with a smart connector?), a facetime camera and a little better use of space (the display could be stretched a little more along the black edges (yes, even where it is not rounded)). A separate wifi and sim module will be very interesting..
