The introduction of the Apple Watch Series 8 was not long in coming. During the traditional Apple Event in September, the Cupertino giant revealed a new generation of Apple watches, which received the expected changes. Let's take a look at the interesting news that Series 8 brings together.

During the presentation itself, Apple placed considerable emphasis on the overall capabilities of the Apple Watch and its contribution to everyday life. That is why the new generation brings even more capabilities, together with the most advanced sensors, a large always-on display and excellent durability. In terms of design, the Apple Watch Series 8 does not change compared to the previous generation.

Emphasis on health and a new sensor

Apple Watch is a great helper for our everyday life. Apple is now putting increased emphasis on women, which is why it has equipped the new Apple Watch Series 8 with improved cycle tracking. To top it all off, we've even seen the arrival of a brand new body temperature sensor that can now be used to track ovulation. The new sensor measures the temperature once every five seconds and can detect fluctuations of up to 0,1 °C. The watch can use this data for the aforementioned ovulation analysis and provide users with much better data that can help them in the future.

Of course, temperature measurement can also be used for other purposes. That is why the Apple Watch Series 8 can cope with detecting the body temperature in various situations - for example, during illness, alcohol consumption and other cases. Of course, the user has a detailed overview of all data via the native Health application. On the other hand, the data is also end-to-end encrypted on iCloud, and even Apple cannot access it. However, if you need to share them, you can choose what you want to encrypt and what not, or share the selected parameters straight away.

Apple watches have been equipped with a number of great features for a long time. They can detect an EKG or a fall, which has already saved many human lives countless times. Apple is now taking these technologies a little further and introducing car accident detection. At least half of the accidents happen out of reach, when it can be problematic to contact help. As soon as the Apple Watch Series 8 detects an accident, it will automatically connect to the emergency line within 10 minutes, which will transmit information and detailed location. The function is ensured by a pair of motion sensors and a new accelerometer working up to 4x faster than the previous version. Of course, machine learning also plays an important role. The function specifically detects a front, rear and side impact, as well as possible overturning of the vehicle.

Battery life

The Apple Watch Series 8 boasts an 18-hour battery life, which is the same as previous generations. What is new, however, is the brand new low battery mode. The Apple Watch will practically receive the same mode that we know from our iPhones. In the case of using the low power mode, the battery life can reach up to 36 hours, thanks to turning off some functions. These include, for example, automatic exercise detection, always-on display and others. But this function will already be available for Apple Watch Series 4 and later as part of the watchOS 9 operating system. But the important information is that the low-power mode will retain activity monitoring and accident detection.

Availability and price

The new generation of Apple watches will be available in four colors for the aluminum version, and three colors for the stainless steel version. At the same time, new straps are also coming, including Nike and Hermes. The Apple Watch Series 8 will be available for pre-order today for $399 (GPS version) and $499 (GPS+Cellular). The watch will then appear on dealers' counters as early as September 16, 2022.
