Apple Watch has long been considered the unequivocal king in the field of smart watches, where in the eyes of many users they noticeably surpass the capabilities of the competition. Recently, however, certain allusions have often appeared. According to them, Apple stops innovating the watch enough, which is why they get stuck in place, especially in terms of software. In this direction, however, quite possibly a fundamental change awaits us.

Recently, leaks and speculations have begun to appear, according to which Apple is preparing for a relatively important move forward. It should come together with the watchOS 10 operating system. Apple will present it to us on the occasion of the developer conference WWDC 2023, which will take place at the beginning of June this year. The release of the system should then take place later in the autumn. watchOS 10 is supposed to completely overhaul the user interface and bring interesting news. This brings us to the latest leak, which claims that an important change is coming regarding the pairing process.

You won't just pair your Apple Watch with your iPhone anymore

Before we focus on the leak itself, let's quickly describe how the Apple Watch actually works in terms of pairing so far. Practically the only option is the iPhone. You can thus only pair the Apple Watch with the iPhone and thus connect them to each other. If you also have, for example, an iPad where you are logged in to the same Apple ID, you can view activity data on it, for example. The same is true for the Mac. Here, the watch can be used, for example, for authentication or logging in. In any case, the possibility of pairing a watch with these two products simply does not exist. Either iPhone or nothing.

And that should change relatively soon. A leaker has now come up with new information @analyst941, according to which the Apple Watch will no longer be tied only to the iPhone as such, but will be able to be paired without the slightest problem, for example, with the aforementioned iPads or Macs. Unfortunately, no further information has been revealed, so it is not entirely clear what this change might look like, what principle it will be based on, or whether the obligation to set it up via the iPhone will be completely eliminated.

What changes can we expect?

Let's therefore shed light together on what changes such a news could actually bring. However, as we mentioned above, more detailed information is not completely known, so this is just speculation. Anyway, what is possible, so that the whole pairing process could work similarly to Apple AirPods. So you could pair the watch based on the device you're working with, which the Apple Watch itself would adapt to. But now to the most important thing - what can await us with this step?

It is quite likely that a change in the mating process could noticeably move the entire apple ecosystem several steps forward. Purely theoretically, the Watch application could thus arrive in the iPadOS and macOS systems, which would then significantly cement the ecosystem as such and make it much easier for Apple users to use their products on a daily basis. It's no wonder, then, that Apple fans are raving about this leak and hoping for its arrival soon. But there are still question marks over that. There are two theories at play - either we will see the news later this year, as part of the watchOS 10 update, or it will arrive only next year. It will also be important whether it will be a software change for all compatible Apple Watch models, or if only the latest generation will receive it.
