The WWDC conference continues merrily with various talks, and that means that every now and then there is an interesting news worth sharing. This is exactly what happened in the case of yesterday's lecture regarding the Apple Watch, or watchOS 5. The new operating system for smart watches from Apple will see a major expansion in its new version within the open-source ResearchKit platform. Thanks to it, it will be possible to create applications that can detect the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

ResearchKit in watchOS 5 will receive a major functional extension. New tools will appear here, which in practice can identify symptoms leading to Parkinson's disease. These new features will be available as part of the "Moving Disorder API" and will be available to developers of all possible applications.

This new interface will allow the watch to track specific movements that are typical for the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. This is a function for monitoring hand tremors and a function for monitoring Dyskinesia, i.e. involuntary movements of some parts of the body, usually arms, head, trunk, etc. Applications that will use this new interface will have monitoring of these elements available 24 hours a day. Therefore, if the patient (in this case the Apple Watch user) suffers from similar symptoms, even if only in a very limited form, without being consciously aware of it, the application will alert him.

This tool can thus significantly help in the early diagnosis of this disease. The interface will be able to create its own report, which should be an adequate source of information for a doctor dealing with this issue. As part of this report, information on the intensity of similar seizures, their repetition, etc. should be kept.
