After so many years of waiting, today is the D-day for all those who have been waiting for Apple to use the full potential of its watch in cooperation with operators operating in the Czech Republic. Apple Watch LTE is thus finally available on the domestic market. But does it make sense to buy them? How for whom. The current time is quite contradictory.
If you are one of those who have been waiting all these years for the Apple Watch LTE with the appropriate services to be available here, buying it is a clear choice for you and there is no point in contradicting it in any way. But then there are also those who wanted an Apple Watch, knew about its LTE version and were simply waiting for it. So now the question arises: "should I buy or should I wait?”
Operators
Apple Watch LTE is currently only supported by T-Mobile. Operators O2 and Vodafone have been giving vague signals about the inclusion of their Apple Watch Cellular services in their offerings. So in practice, you have to be a T-Mobile customer, existing or new, to use LTE Apple Watch services. If you only buy a device, you will not be able to use the connection options with other operators. If the situation will change at least by the end of the year, only they know.
So: "Switch to T-Mobile or wait?"
Price
99 CZK per month is honestly less than I personally expected. Therefore, paying an additional hundred to the price of the tariff in order to be able to use the Apple Watch LTE to the full even without the need to connect to an iPhone seems to me to be an acceptable price. Apple Watch Cellular is more expensive than the versions without this option, while offering nothing more than the ability to use it without connecting to a phone. Now we are not taking into account the official availability of the stainless steel version, but we are talking about the identical one, i.e. aluminum with a basic strap.
If we look at the individual models as offered by the Czech Apple Online Store, the numbers are as follows:
- Apple Watch SE 40 mm: CZK 7 × CZK 990 in the Cellular version - a difference of CZK 9
- Apple Watch SE 44 mm CZK 8 × CZK 790 in the Cellular version - a difference of CZK 10
- Apple Watch Series 6 40 mm: CZK 11 × CZK 490 in the Cellular version - a difference of CZK 14
- Apple Watch Series 6 44 mm: CZK 12 × CZK 290 in the Cellular version - a difference of CZK 15
To these differences, it is therefore necessary to add an expenditure of 12 x 99 CZK per year, i.e. 1 CZK, or 188 CZK for two years, 2 CZK for three years, etc. just for the fact that you can fully use LTE in the watch. And here are more questions:
"Does it really make sense to pay more just for LTE connectivity?"
"Am I really going to use the potential of the Apple Watch Cellular to pay extra for it?"
"Will competition from O2 and Vodafone be cheaper?"
New generation
But the most pressing question of all is probably a little different from the ones mentioned above. There is already speculation about what the new Apple Watch will look like and what it will be able to do. In addition, it is assumed that we will see Series 7 already in the fall of this year, i.e. at the turn of September and October.
"So is it worth investing in the Apple Watch now, or is it better to wait for the next generation?"
If you would wait, you can wait forever and for everything. But that's if we don't have a potential successor that will replace the Series 6 and its prices in three or four months. And that's a relatively short time to last. But summer is upon us, i.e. a period of various activities, during which you can already fully utilize the potential of the Apple Watch LTE.
One thing is certain, T-Mobile customers have a nice bug in their heads, the others can blame the delay in the purchase on at least the necessary transition from their operator, which simply may not be wanted by everyone. With the arrival of the new generation, it may also receive support from the remaining operators, which will actually earn O2 and Vodafone customers. They just have to figure out what they will actually "track" with this summer.
So still pay extra money monthly like a moron, when in the USA it is free of charge in T-Mobile? LOL
I don't know in America, but someone wrote on FB that they pay $10 for it there. In Germany they want €4 for it. In our country, less than a hundred, which is not even a single box of Marlborek.
In Germany, however, the unlimited tariff per liter does not cost either. Having a German price means I will pay the 99 CZK extra for AW, but pay 600-800 for today's relatively "normal" tariff and pay extra per kilo for AW? If I got a few extra GB of data or something like that for that hundred, I won't say anything...
This looks like an ad for Fio - you pay for each shot and they also charge you for the greeting.
I can't imagine that I would buy a phone, a plan, and still pay the provider regularly for the ability to make calls. That's pretty big bullshit and I see no reason to support it
After all, no one is forcing you! For some, it is comfort and they are happy to pay extra.
Well, you started a nice discussion, but the matter is quite simple. The one who needs it will buy it:) And the one who wants it to be able to splurge will also buy it:)
Vodafone will have it in Zari
September is already over and VODAFONE doesn't have it...so when?
I understand well that if I have a new W6 for a month, I will not be able to use esim in the future? Will I have to buy a new one?
Yes, that's right (if they aren't labeled Cellular, they don't support LTE).
Yes, it is, as long as they are not in the LTE-Cellular version. You can tell by the fact that they have a prominent red circle around the side of the control knob.
If you don't have Lte, not even 😉
Do you know when he might have O2? I don't want to deal with the transition to T mobile, so is it worth waiting?
supposedly by the end of the year, but no guarantee
Hello,
the last info I have from support, it could be from October 2022, but you can't believe it at all when there isn't even an official statement from the company, or at least I didn't get it when I asked for it, so I consider this date only for a meaningless slap in the water and years later I'm considering switching to T-mobile.
Have a nice day.
K.
