The day when we celebrated New Year's Eve and looked forward to 2016 is behind us. Of course, this day also includes the traditional countdown to when the new year will arrive. The last seconds until the next year are watched both on TV channels and on classical clocks in the home. And of course also on mobile phones. There are many options, but if you have an Apple Watch on your hand, then you can be sure that you will find out the arrival of the new year or any other time data most accurately.

"Those who own an Apple Watch will have the most accurate information about when the new year will come," Apple's vice president of technology Kevin Lynch, who is considered one of the main architects of the Apple Watch, told the public before its arrival. They achieved a profit of one billion US dollars in the third quarter of 2015.

In an interview for Mashable Lynch said that the Watch possesses unprecedented time accuracy, referring to the situation that once we hold two of these watches in our hands, the individual second hand will run in parallel with maximum accuracy.

Apple has put enough effort into making the smartwatch as accurate as possible when it comes to time. The accuracy of watches is not only a problem of mechanical winding types. Digital systems sometimes suffer from what is known as "time distortion", which means that signals that should be delivered at the same time do not work as they should.

This will cause the situation that individual devices will always differ slightly in showing time data. However, the team from Cupertino, California solved this problem elegantly, in a way that all systems will be based on one centralized server.

"We first secured our own network time servers around the world," said Lynch. Apple focused on 15 NTP (Network Type Protocol) servers around the world, which differ by one unit from the atomic clock. All these servers are housed in buildings with GPS antennas that communicate with GPS satellites orbiting the Earth. The mentioned GPS satellites are connected to one main system, ensuring maximum time accuracy.

The signal from the servers then communicates with the iPhone using the internet network and this is projected to the Apple Watch based on the Bluetooth connection of the two devices. "Even with this smart way, we still have to deal with time lags," Lynch said, adding that sometimes human intervention is needed.

"We really put a lot of thought into the time accuracy of the Apple Watch itself, and that's why it's up to four times more accurate than the iPhone," Lynch said, noting that the smartwatch is meant for a different purpose in the first place.

The editor-in-chief also commented on this topic aBlogtoWatch and watch expert Ariel Adams. "Although Apple claims that its accuracy is remarkable, it is completely logical and not innovative considering that everything works on the basis of GPS signals from satellites or the network," summarized Adams for Mashable. He also added that there are companies in the world such as Bathys and Hoptroff that provide watches with built-in atomic clock chips and can rightly be characterized as the most inaccurate in the world.

Despite the obvious refutation of the "innovative time accuracy Watch", Adams is a proud user of the device. "In 2015, there was no other watch that I admired more than the Apple Watch," Adams said, adding that it is indeed a beautiful and impressive device.

Sure, there will be pundits and critics who disagree too much with Apple, but if Lynch and the entire California company are right, all owners of this groundbreaking smartwatch will be counting down the final seconds to the new year and any other event at the same time.
