Apple today commemorated Martin Luther King on its website and dedicated the entire main page of its website to his memory Apple.com. Tim Cook and his company thus paid tribute to a man whom Cook himself greatly admires and claims to be a great inspiration for his work.

In the past, he even admitted in an interview that he has a portrait of Martin Luther King along with a portrait of the politician Robert Kennedy displayed on his desk in his office.

In short, I felt a deep respect for both of them and still do. I look at them every day because I feel for people. We still see a class type of society in the world and in the United States where people try to convince others that one group does not deserve the same rights as another group. I think that's crazy, I think that's un-American.

Cook himself tweeted about Apple's special tribute to this well-known Baptist preacher and one of the leaders of the African-American civil rights movement. He drew attention to the official Martin Luther King Day, which always falls on the third Monday in January.

Although Apple is highlighting this big day for the first time this year, they took the event quite seriously in Cupertino. While most American companies give their employees a day off for this occasion, at Apple they encouraged their workers to do volunteer work instead. For every employee who works this day off, Apple intends to donate $50 to charity.
