For a long time now, there has been talk about the arrival of an AR/VR headset from Apple, which should surprise especially with its specifications and high price tag. By all accounts, this expected device is practically already behind the door, and the Cupertino giant is therefore now focusing on the development of a special xrOS operating system that will power the headset. At first glance, this is good news – we will see a brand-new device capable of moving technology a few steps forward again.

Unfortunately, it is not that simple. Although apple growers should be happy about the arrival of this news, on the contrary, they are rather worried. For a long time, it has been said that Apple is working on the development of the aforementioned xrOS system at the expense of iOS. That is why iOS 17 should offer a smaller amount of news than we are used to. The question now is, therefore, how Apple will approach this. According to some fans, the situation like with iOS 12 may repeat itself, when the new system did not bring much news, but focused on overall optimization and performance increase. However, current developments do not indicate this.

Augmented and artificial reality have been moving the world in recent years. It is in this segment that we have recently seen incredible progress, which can come in handy not only for passionate video game players, but also for experts, craftsmen and others who can make their work easier. It is therefore not surprising that Apple is also starting to develop. But apple growers are worried about this, and quite rightly so. It already seems that the development of the iOS operating system is on the so-called second track. Specifically, version 16.2 brought with it a number of not-so-friendly bugs. Naturally, therefore, they were expected to be resolved quickly, but this did not happen in the final and we had to wait for the update some Friday.

AR/VR as the future?

For this reason, the mentioned concerns about the form of iOS 17 rather deepen. At the same time, however, there is still one fundamental question that can be quite crucial for Apple. Are augmented and virtual reality really the expected future? It doesn't look like that between people at the moment, quite the opposite. Video game players are particularly interested in virtual reality, which is not entirely the domain of the Cupertino company. Regular users are practically uninterested in AR/VR capabilities and only see them as a nice, if insignificant, plus. Therefore, fans of the apple company are starting to question whether Apple is heading in the right direction.

When we look at the portfolio of Apple products and the company's sales, we clearly find that smartphones are the so-called main product on which the giant depends. Although investing in AR/VR can ensure a better future, it is worth considering whether it should come at the expense of the main operating system that ensures the flawless operation of the mentioned phones. Apple may pay handsomely for this step. If it neglects the development of iOS 17, it can create an unsightly dent in users, which will drag on for a while. The fact that there is not so much interest in the AR/VR segment for the time being is what we addressed in the article attached below.
