Apple released a press release tonight announcing that it has achieved a significant milestone in terms of ecology and environmental friendliness. From now on, the company uses only renewable energy sources for its global operation. To a certain extent, it thus completed its efforts to combat climate change and preserve the environment.

The press release mentions that the 100% use of energy from renewable sources applies to all stores, offices, data centers and other objects that the company owns around the world (43 countries including the USA, the UK, China, India, etc.). In addition to Apple, nine other manufacturing partners who produce some components for Apple's products managed to reach this milestone. The total number of suppliers that operate purely from renewable sources has thus risen to 23. The company uses several methods to achieve this goal. When it comes to huge areas covered with solar panels, wind farms, biogas stations, hydrogen generators, etc. Apple currently manages 25 different objects that are scattered around the world and together have a production capacity of up to 626 MW. Another 15 such projects are currently in the construction phase. Once they are ready, the company should have a system that will be able to generate up to 1,4 GW for the needs of 11 countries.

Among the projects mentioned above are, for example, Apple Park, with its roof dotted with solar panels, huge "farms" in China that focus on generating electricity from both the wind and the sun. Similar complexes are also located in several places in the USA, Japan, India, etc. You can find a complete list in the press release.

Among the suppliers who follow the company in this regard and try to minimize their "carbon footprint" are, for example, Pegatron, Arkema, ECCO, Finisar, Luxshare and many others. In addition to the already mentioned 23 suppliers that already operate purely from renewable sources, another 85 companies that have the same goal have joined this initiative. In 2017 alone, this effort prevented the production of more than one and a half million cubic meters of greenhouse gases, which is equivalent to the annual production of approximately 300 vehicles.
