Not even a month has passed since iOS 5.0 release and there is a new version out now. As is often the case, the first version of everything always has its major bugs, and before long a new version is released to remove these ailments. It is no different in the case of iOS 5.
Probably most users have a problem with battery life, especially owners of the latest model of the apple phone - iPhone 4S. There are reported cases when people did not last from the morning and fully charged until the evening hours. Even owners of other iOS devices may experience a drastic decrease in the battery life of their beloved. Hopefully this update will fix the battery issues.
Users of the first generation iPad can be very pleased. Apple took pity on them for some mysterious reason and thus added support for multitasking gestures. Until now, these were only available for the iPad 2. We informed you about the version of iOS 5 for iPads in this article.
after updating my iphone 4 the problem persists with location service - time zone - GPS active for an infinite time
I don't understand it somehow, but something here smells like big brother, I have the problem you describe too and I don't have an update
So I'm fixing it: after about 20 minutes, the GPS finally turned itself off...
I understood the function of the time zone so that when I travel to America, the clock will reset itself? Or if I know that it is being built here, is it a completely expendable function? Or if I turn it off normally, I won't lose anything and I'll save the battery? Or why do you have it turned on if you are not traveling anywhere in the country to a different time zone. I would be very interested :D
That's exactly how it is. If you don't travel often, you'll save battery. I recommend turning it off.
if turning off the automatic setting of the time zone relieves the battery, thank you very much for the advice, because the furthest I have been was in Germany and the last time was 17 years ago :):)
I don't want an update!!! I feel like my iPhone 5 has almost twice the battery life after installing iOS 4. Does anyone have a similar experience? I am afraid that in the next version the endurance will be reduced to the usual 1 day.
I wouldn't be afraid of that :-)))
And as a 4s user I don't think it will help us anyway. It will probably eliminate the problem for the one percent of people whose phone dies after a few hours, but in general, I think that the battery in 4s is simply at the limit of usability for this setup. Unfortunately, when it comes to batteries, technology is a few steps behind chips.. And the difference will obviously increase..
Yes, I have a similar "problem" to Szk. My iPhone 4 now also lasts up to 3 days of use, so I'll reconsider the update :/
I would like to have your "issues". For me, after updating to iOS 5.0, the battery life decreased from two days to one day
:), that's right, some of the comments seem like they came straight from the goddesses, with iOS 5 my stamina dropped from the two to one like yours, but with 5.0.1 it seems to be back to the good old ways: ), do you know if the same problem was also on iPads? I only have experience with it under iOS 5.
I have exactly the same experience, I just don't see it as a problem :) I would see it as a problem if it lasted me half a day instead of a day.
I have a problem with updating my ipad 1, I can't update it both via wifi and itunes, It throws error -3259 - network connection timed out, and I don't know what to do next, wait until tomorrow, I've tried 4 times and still same, i updated my iphone without problem..
Just restore it in iTunes and then update it.
Oh, and I personally won't think about the update, because an update from apple can't disappoint me, I've always been satisfied and I know 100% that an update from them can't disappoint me. They are people who really understand it and have always understood it, so I'm not afraid of it.
After the update via phone, I have problems with the signal that it appears. I am alone? (iphone 4s under T-mobile) thanks for the advice
I have exactly the same problem. I don't know what to do with it at all…..I called the operator and they endlessly tell me to go to the branch to have my SIM card checked..however, it only started happening after the update to iOS 5.01..does anyone know what to do with it? ??
4S also T MOBILE
Same problem with iPhone 4S. Apple support told me that all Tmobile CZ users have this problem. There is no downgrade option. This problem is since version 5.0.1 beta 2. Beta 1 works fine. For those who have the option to downgrade to beta 1, this is then the only solution. Then I don't have a solution, what they told me about the support. Apple failed at this :-/
How can I downgrade to 5.0.1 beta 1? Or is this not even possible? Thanks
The operator told me a while ago that the only proven way to fix it is a new SIM card. (free) I haven't had time to try yet…
THIS IS A SOFTWARE ERROR iOS 5.0.1. I just solved it over 2 hours with English Apple support. We tried restore several times, with restore from backup and as a completely new installation. Unfortunately, after all the tests that I did with the support person, he informed me that he had sold it to the Apple engineering team, who would solve it on Monday. As I was told, downgrading to Beta 1 is not possible - they really won't let me. So if you didn't have a jailbroken iPhone 4S and you don't have SHSH blobs saved, you're in the same situation as me. After the weekend, the tip from support will call me, what can be done. I expect that they will have to solve it with some hyper-fast patch in the software. Otherwise, we can write a mass refund straight away (because apple won't allow a downgrade even if it's demonstrably their fault) ... my phone is pretty unusable at the moment :-/
Changing the sim didn't help :-( It's worthless.... tried...
I already have a new SIM card and it's really useless. The phone didn't notice the SIM removed either. I have a signal here and there, it drops out here and there... So I'm curious...
The problem with TMobile is only on the 4s or has someone found it on the iPad as well. I have an iPad1 and most of the time I am connected via 3G, so I would hate to be without a connection
As far as I know, it's only a problem with the 4S. iPhone 4 runs fine.
After iOS5.0.1 update, iPhone 4S is out of signal. I tried restarting and nothing helps. My wife has an iPhone 4 and after the update it runs better than my 4s. It was probably a mistake to buy a new piece. The first and second iPAD are without problems, only I'm in a mess with the new one... :)
So I wrote the previous post and pulled out the iP4S SIM card and guess what…. The phone didn't even notice :) REALLY! Well, I'm sorry, but I have to be available, and I'll take a ...droid to solve it. It sucks, but I really have to make a phone call, and believe me, it hurts a lot. :(
So the upgrade took place within 15 minutes and everything went smoothly on the iPad, the signal was fine. otherwise I have to praise Apple for the "wireless" upgrade, they succeeded.
I have the same problem. I changed sims, tried everything. The problem was already on iOS 5.0.1 beta 2, but it was restored to 5.0.0. Now it doesn't go back and the signal drops out. Flashlight: not much either.
I have ip4s and ios 5.0.1 and tmobile and no problem. maybe it's because I did a restore from ip4 after inserting the sim when it arrived.
Alas - you are not alone.
T-Mobile + 4S + 5.0.1 + same problem.
Changing the SIM did not help. Changing the phone (for another brand) will probably help. I've had various messed up phones before, but no other mobile phone manufacturer I've ever had has done such a disastrous bot - and there were a lot of them.
first impressions on the 3GS: it's slightly faster (5.0.0 was scary). Practically did not work "spotlight", falling safari. Now it seems a bit better in terms of system response. I was desperate for the first five…
I don't understand how someone's iPhone can last 3 days? I sometimes charge twice a day!
The only thing I can think of is that the person whose iPhone lasts 3 days has absolutely no use for the iPhone, because they only use it for phone calls, and that's really sad. I have advice for such a person - buy a Nokia for a thousand and it will last you a week!
Horst, you have no right!
I have an iP4 with iOS 5. Current battery status 17%, usage 12h, 32 min, standby mode 2 days 4 h! And I play games, take photos, edit photos, record videos, communicate via the Internet, surf, listen to music... in short, everything that I have an iPhone for!
IPhone4S with iOS 5.0.0 charged to 100% in the evening, disconnected from the charger. Morning 37%. That was terrible.
After shooting the update (and true, turning off the detection of the time zone in the location services) overnight it decreased only 10%. You can live with that.
Well, I don't know, it doesn't seem right to me. My iPhone 4 won't lose even one percent overnight.
i have ip4s for a while..first night it lost 10% battery..i let it fully discharge and full charge twice, turned off timezones, updated to 5.0.1 and second night only lost 1% battery, i'm satisfied :)
Horst Fuchs nailed it :-D haha exactly ;))
My 4Sko is in service, because I didn't want to unlock the SIM card correctly, so I can't test the battery life, but I will test it on the 3GS. Can any 4Ska owners test the battery life with the time zone setting on and off? What will be the difference? I would be quite interested. Thanks a lot.
It's quite strange that everyone expects a miraculous solution to the battery (which I understand of course), but no one cares about the fact that this is defacto the first OTA update, which obviously works, is fast, problem-free and does what it's supposed to without a problem. I have turned off GPS for many services and programs.. which I don't really understand, but I haven't researched what the GPS is for in pages... otherwise.. update as such.. simple, complete, well done.. what kind of news does it bring to the system, or what happens change is another matter, but the update really according to me .. to number one
people, please, where in the settings can I find it to turn off the time zone? here it sucks and it just eats the flashlight... thanks!
Settings—-Location Services—System Services—Time Zone Settings
Thanks! :-)
You're welcome :)
I have it exactly like Horst Fuchs. I have ip4. Personally, I noticed that by far the most battery drain is connected via edge or 3g. So if I start surfing at seven and drive, I have to charge at one (safari+imo). Otherwise, it would have lasted me too. Viggoa, you probably have some kind of miracle for which I have no choice but to congratulate.
So it seems to me that the update, after which I have an ipod from an iPhone 4S (i.e. SMS or calls do not work), was not very successful :(
iphone 4s+T-mobile= thesis. cz apple helpline doesn't say anything else... :(
With 4s 5.0.1, calls are possible if you have mobile data turned on. Resetting the network settings also helps.
It helps, for a few hours. The signal is just gone. Me with the iP4S is in the same place as the wife's iP4 and I have zero signal, the wife is full. While driving, I am in search mode and my wife calls 106. We both have T-Mobile. I've really tried everything and it really can't be separated.
That helped me for about an hour. They said on the helpline that they know about it, it's a purely regional problem, it's common for Tm and a couple of customers in Slovakia.
I have already reset everything, including restore to factory settings - after the restart, one call is successful, so I'm glad that the problem is solved, but then nothing again :(
I had a problem with the signal dropping out at O2 even before the update, which I attributed to the amateur production of the microSIM. After the update, I didn't notice the outage. iPhone 4S
well, great... with the 3GS I was looking forward to the update for one reason - broken songs... and they didn't fix it... I don't understand. I didn't have a problem with endurance, chopping or anything, the only thing that bothers me is that I simply can't play some songs... I don't understand how they can afford not to fix it...
does anyone have this problem too?
I don't want to be rude, but I always and everywhere read how everyone complains about smartphone batteries.... Are you guys normal? I don't know about you, but I feel like you live in a different world, I have access to electricity 8 hours a day at work and then a few hours at home, and the few hours I spend somewhere in the world my iPhone lasts. Even if the battery lasts 5 hours, I can just manage it... Why do you people buy smartphones and then complain about the batteries? if you want battery life, I recommend one of the older SE models, they had quite a decent life
I'm having trouble making a call again. I can hear myself on the 1st attempt, even though the call appears to be connected. On the 2nd attempt, I will then call (mostly). Sometimes I hear the free man as if he were using a tin pipe instead of a cell phone. Then it turns out that I can hear the caller, but I can't be heard. Everything is fine with iP4, only problems with iP4S.
I have 4s after the update, it went on, the signal started up after restarting and then it didn't start anymore and to top it all off, the NETWORK icon disappeared in my settings and after trying to restore it via PC, I can't even turn on the phone anymore and t-mobile where I bought it on the very first day when the phone was on market for 16@@@ he sent me somewhere that they can't give me the money or a new device, that I have to wait a month until he returns from the service, long live the Czech bureaucracy! Ps: now using oldschool nokia is also not to be thrown away :-)
He's a slob and that's it! iP4S simply does not work with T-Mobile - it will not log in to the network (after the update). I sit with it all day, delete, restore, but nothing helps. We have to hold on and hope they do something about it. Nokia and Android drawer phones will experience a few minutes of fame again (before they fix it for us) At least we won't have them scratched so quickly (iP4S) :)
I found help, or attempted help, on the apple website. Turn off SIM card PIN. I've already started changing the SIM card at the operator, so I'm being careful. but so far it works. So you can try and possibly write.
Settings >> Phone >> SIM PIN then sliding the SIM PIN switch to Off.
so cool... I get on the internet, I receive sms, someone calls me, but I can't send sms or call...
but full signal and 3G writes almost all the time :)
All I can think of now is to return the phone and get a new one that comes with 5.0 out of the box, and not to update, since Apple is silent as the grave and does not even offer a downgrade as a temporary solution, so they probably feel that they did a good job and that a new update is not needed: )
Hi, I would like to ask if anyone has had a similar experience - we had a lot of photos uploaded to our iPads and iPhones, nicely sorted into Albums by year and in each album sorted by date of acquisition - just like we normally do on a PC. After upgrading to iOS 5, we had a problem syncing photos at all, only empty albums appeared. In the end it somehow worked out, the albums are there, but the photos in them are absolutely pointlessly scattered and we really can't do anything about it. We are already quite desperate…. :-( In PC, iTunes, everything looks as it should, but in iPad and iPhone it is "turned on its head". Does anyone know what to do with it? Thanks.
