Last week, Apple added a brand new category to the App Store called Shopping. But how later revealed server TechCrunch, this wasn't the only change Apple's engineers made to the app store. The App Store has finally received an improved search algorithm, thanks to which it will offer you more relevant and intelligent results when searching for a keyword.

The transformation of the algorithm apparently started already on November 3rd and fully began to manifest itself at the end of last week. In the past, when developing the App Store, Apple focused mainly on the algorithms related to the "Recommended" tab and the rankings of the best apps in the "Paid", "Free" and "Most profitable" categories. However, if the user searched for the application manually and did not know their exact name, he often stumbled upon it. So now it looks like Apple has finally started to deal with the problem.

The applications that the search engine now presents are selected based on contextual keywords, which include, for example, the names of competing applications. Search no longer operates only with app names and keywords that the developer filled in the relevant field. Among other things, the news somehow implies greater competition, because if you search for a specific application, the App Store will throw out a number of its direct competitors alongside it.

TechCrunch shows this with the example of searching for the keyword "Twitter". In addition to the official application, the App Store will also present popular alternative clients such as Tweetbot or Twitterrific to users and, unlike before, it will no longer display Instagram, which the user is most likely not looking for when typing the word "Twitter".

Apple has not yet commented on the new search algorithm.
