Apple tonight, in addition to the new version of iOS 12.4, also released the new (and until September, probably the last) version of the watchOS operating system. It mainly focuses on correcting known errors and brings the ECG measurement function to some countries. After a short break, watchOS also returns the Transmitter function, which Apple had to remove for security reasons.

The watchOS 5.3 update is available through the app Watch and a bookmark In general -> Software update. The size of the update is 105 MB. The official changelog is as follows:

This update contains new features, improvements and bug fixes and is recommended for all users:

  • It brings important security updates including a patch for the Radio application
  • The ECG app is now available on Apple Watch Series 4 in Canada and Singapore
  • Irregular heartbeat notification is now available in Canada and Singapore

To install the update, the Apple Watch must be connected to the charger and the watch must be within range of the "mother" iPhone, which is connected to a WiFi network.

Apart from the official list of changes, no hidden news is known yet. None were discovered during testing, so it looks like watchOS 5.3 isn't bringing much. The next major update with new features will most likely be watchOS 6, which Apple will most likely release sometime in the second half of September.
