Alongside iOS 12.1, Apple today also released the new watchOS 5.1 for all compatible Apple Watch owners. The update mainly brings improvements and bug fixes. However, there are also several functions along with new dials.

You can update your Apple Watch in the app Watch on the iPhone, where in the section My watch just go to In general -> Software update. For the Apple Watch Series 4, you need to download a 159 MB installation package.

Similar to the iOS update, watchOS 5.1 brings support for group FaceTime calls for up to 32 participants. However, only group audio calls are available on the smartwatch, which is understandable due to the absence of a camera. The update also brings support for new emoticons, of which there are more than 70. After the update, Apple Watch Series 4 owners can also set a new colorful watch face that uses the entire display area. For older models, a new dial option with a filled color circle is available.

  • Fixed an issue that could cause incomplete installation of the Radio application for some users
  • Addressed an issue that prevented some users from sending or receiving invitations in the Broadcaster app
  • Addressed an issue that prevented some users from displaying previously earned awards in the Awards panel in the Activity app
