After a few weeks of closed testing within developer programs and two beta versions of iOS 11, Apple released the first public beta of the new operating system for iPhones and iPads. Anyone who signs up for the beta program can try out the new features in iOS 11.

The practice is the same as in previous years, when Apple opened the possibility for all users to test the upcoming operating system before its sharp release to the general public, which is planned for autumn. However, it is necessary to take into account that this is indeed a beta version, which may be full of errors and not everything may work in it.

Therefore, if you want to try, for example, the new Control Center, the drag&drop function or the big news on iPads that iOS 11 brings, we strongly recommend that you first back up your iPhone or iPad so that you can go back to stable iOS 10 in case of problems.

Anyone interested in testing iOS 11 must at beta.apple.com sign up for the test program and download the necessary certificate. After installing it, you will see the latest iOS 11 public beta (currently Public Beta 1) in Settings > General > Software Update.

At the same time, we do not recommend installing the iOS 11 beta on your primary device that you use daily and need for work. Ideally, it's a good idea to install the betas on secondary iPhones or iPads where you can catch all the news, but if something doesn't work perfectly, that's not a problem for you.

If you want to go back to the stable version of iOS 10 after a while, read Apple's manual.
