It's been a few tens of minutes since Apple released macOS 11.2.2 to the general public. Along with this release, we have not seen any other new versions of other operating systems released. In any case, Apple had to hurry with this macOS update, as a rather serious bug appeared in the operating system for Apple computers, which could have resulted in the destruction of some MacBooks.

This serious bug specifically involved USB-C docks and hubs, which could damage devices when connected. Specifically, Apple does not indicate which specific problem docks or hubs were involved, in any case, we can now sleep peacefully knowing that we will not damage our Apple computers with accessories. According to available information, the problem only affected MacBook Pros from 2019 and MacBook Air from 2020. At first it seemed that the update would only be available for these selected models, however, finally the macOS 11.2.2 update is available for all Macs and MacBooks, which support macOS Big Sur. To update, click the  icon at the top left -> System Preferences -> Software Update.

The following information is found in the release notes:

  • macOS Big Sur 11.2.2 prevents damage to MacBook Pro (2019 or later) and MacBook Air (2020 or later) computers when certain incompatible third-party hubs and docking stations are attached.
