Apple - unlike watchOS 2 on schedule - released a new version of its operating system for iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. In addition to a number of new features, iOS 9 also brings better performance and, above all, stability.

iOS 9 will run on all devices that ran iOS 8, meaning that even owners of devices up to four years old can look forward to it. iOS 9 supports iPhone 4S and later, iPad 2 and later, all iPad Airs, all iPad minis, the future iPad Pro (with version 9.1), and also the 5th generation iPod touch.

Several basic applications and functions underwent the biggest change in iOS 9. The functionality of Siri was significantly enhanced, and multitasking was similarly significantly improved on the iPad, where it is now possible to use two applications side by side, or to have two windows on top of each other. However, at the same time, Apple was also very focused on improving the performance and stability of the entire system after years of adding dozens of new features.

Apple writes about iOS 9:

With streamlined search and improved Siri features, this update turns your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch into a more intuitive device. New iPad multitasking lets you work with two apps side-by-side or picture-in-picture at the same time. The update also includes more powerful pre-installed apps - detailed public transport information in Maps, reprogrammed Notes and brand new News. Improvements to the very core of the operating system deliver higher performance, better security and give you up to an hour of extra battery life.

You can download iOS 9 traditionally via iTunes, or directly on your iPhones, iPads and iPod touch v Settings > General > Software Update. A 1 GB package is downloaded to the iPhone.
