More than three weeks ago, Apple released the first beta version of the upcoming iOS 7.1 update, where he began to fix some of the ills from the original big new version of iOS 7, criticized by designers, developers and users alike. The second beta version continues this path of corrections and some changes in the UI are quite significant.
The first change can be seen in the calendar, which became quite unusable in iOS 7, the useful monthly view that displayed the events of the selected day has completely disappeared and has been replaced only by an overview of the days of the month. The original form of the calendar returns in beta 2 as an additional view that can be alternated with the classic event list view.
Another new feature is the option to turn on button outlines. According to the designers, removing the border of the buttons was one of the biggest graphic mistakes that Apple made, people had a hard time distinguishing what was a simple inscription and what was a clickable button. Apple solves this problem by undercoloring the interactive part, which borders the button so that it is clear that it can be tapped. The coloring in its current form does not look very aesthetic, and hopefully Apple will improve the visual appearance, but the button outlines are back, at least as an option in the settings.
Finally, there are other minor improvements. The Touch ID setting on the iPhone 5s is located more visibly in the main menu, the Control Center received a new animation when pulled out, bugs from beta 1 in the ringtone were fixed, on the contrary, the option to turn on the dark version of the keyboard as default disappeared. A new iPad background has also been added. Finally, the animations are even significantly faster than they were in beta 1. However, the animations were one of the things that made the whole of iOS 7 seem slower than the previous version.
Developers can download the new bert version from the dev center or update the previous beta version OTA if they had it installed.
Can anyone install without a developer account? All previous beta versions since the first iOS 7 beta were able to be installed this way, but not the second beta 7.1.
I agree that I'm also missing... I just updated via OTA to 7.1 beta 2 and it tells me that I don't have a developer profile. It's probably going through some sort of activation
And I've been puzzling over this for about 2 hours… glad I'm not alone.
I solved it by updating to 7.0.4 via iTunes and making a backup and then deleted and restored :-) I'll wait for 7.1 offiko
That's exactly what I ended up doing. I just don't know how I managed it, but after several attempts to update to Beta 2, I made a "brick" that kept saying that I was not in dev. program and iTunes rejected even 7.0.4.
Solved by downgrading via Redsn0w to 6.1.3 and only then 7.0.4 -> 7.1 beta 1…. It was a pain in the ass, but I've learned my lesson. :D I'm waiting for the final release.
How did you Downgrade via Redsn0w?
Just put the phone in DFU by turning it off and
1) hold the HOME button for 6 seconds
2) hold the POWER button (still holding HOME) for 10 seconds.
3) Let go of the POWER button but keep holding HOME for about 30 seconds until the iPhone enters DFU mode.
and then itunes is loaded in recovery and you give restore and the iphone is restored to ios 7.0.4
Yes, I only know how you downgraded to 6.1.3 .. :/
I would also be interested in how to get to 6.1.3
I think the interviewer was mainly interested in the downgrade to 6.1.3
oh yeaah finally a usable calendar again! and I also praise the faster animations
Do not update if you do not have a developer account. You will fail activation and have to roll back to 7.0.4 and lose everything if you don't have a backup. The backup from 7.1 is not compatible with 7.0... So be careful.
They could still do something for those customers who still have an iPhone 4, have a slower system, run out of battery faster, and can't roll back iOS6. They would be happy…
They should return the entire UI to the way it was before. Bila burns the eyes at night even at the lowest brightness.
They could make a black variant for the black iPhone (adjustable)…
Like the highlighting of the "buttons" looks terrible in the pictures... hope they don't leave it like that.
If they'd rather leave it flat, I mean the 6-piece design. They made a mess and now they are trying to partially make up for it, but that cannot be said. 6 was perfect. As long as this shit is out there, I'll buy new iPhones.
I don't find the changes interesting, I would have focused on v. 8.
It seems that the changes in the so-called flat design UI, which were demanded by fashion, are a bit of a pain even for Apple. After all, pure design does not give as much room for maneuver as an interface imitating real objects. And the designers fumble a bit, viz. microsoft and its AeroMetro kitty cat in Win8, Apple and literally mountains of bugs in the rendering of UI elements in iOS7...
I'm not saying I don't like Flat design, on the contrary. But a lot of water will escape before it is 100%. And then it's a matter of time, how quickly he looks around.
And one last thing. On Letem… I spotted a kind of enthusiastic flatUI concept for a grown-up OSX. For God's sake, not that! That is, at least until the time, 100% UI debugging in iOS7. After all, who among us longs for the Win8 kitty UI.
This is because Flat UI must be approached very carefully and every element, every color tone or font used must be thought through. It's nice to have a UI that's as stylish as a magazine, but who cares about the thin font, it's also not pleasing to the eyes when it's all over the UI.
Thumbs up for fixing the calendar, it was unusable until now, it was an accurate indication of the victory of form over function.
Totally agree!
