Although the new iOS 13 was released a week ago, Apple today released another serial update for its predecessor in the form of iOS 12.4.2. The update is intended for older iPhones and iPads that are not compatible with the new version of the system.

Apple thus proves once again that its goal is to make even older models of iPhones and iPads last as long as possible and to be as secure as possible. The new iOS 12.4.2 is intended primarily for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, iPad Air (1st generation) and iPod touch (6th generation), i.e. for all devices that already not compatible with iOS 13.

Whether iOS 12.4.2 also brings some minor changes is currently unclear. Apple doesn't say in the update notes that the system includes new features. The update thus most likely corrects specific (security) errors.

Owners of the devices listed above can download the update from Settings –> General –> Software Update.
