Apple released the new iOS 12.1.1 to the public a little while ago. The update is intended for all owners of compatible devices, which include all iPhones, iPads and iPod touches supporting iOS 12. This is a minor update, but it brings several new features and at the same time fixes a number of errors related to, for example, Face ID, dictation or the Dictaphone application .

Users can download and install the new system traditionally in Settings -> In general -> Software update. The update is around 370 MB, the size varies depending on the specific model and device.

iOS 12.1.1 includes new features and bug fixes for your iPhone and iPad. Features and improvements include:

  • Notification previews using haptic touch on iPhone XR
  • Dual SIM using multi-carrier eSIM on iPhone XR, XS and XS Max
  • Switch between the front and rear cameras during a FaceTime call with a single tap
  • Live Photo capture during two-way FaceTime calls
  • Real-Time Text (RTT) service when using Wi-Fi calling on iPad and iPod touch
  • Dictation and VoiceOver stability improvements

The following bugs have been fixed:

  • An issue that could cause Face ID to be temporarily unavailable
  • An issue that prevented some customers from downloading graphics recorder content
  • An issue in the Messages app that could prevent predictive text suggestions from appearing when typing on Chinese and Japanese keyboards
  • An issue that could prevent recordings from the Voice Recorder app from being sent to iCloud
  • An issue that could prevent time zones from automatically updating

This release also includes the following new features and bug fixes for HomePod:

  • Support in Mainland China and Hong Kong
  • Lighting up LEDs on HomePod during group FaceTime calls
