Monday evening was marked by a whole series of updates that Apple released not only for its operating systems, but also for several applications. The majority of users are most interested in iOS 10.3, but the changes can also be found on Mac or in the Watch. The updates for the iWork package and the Apple TV control application are also positive.

Millions of iPhones and iPads are moving to a new file system with iOS 10.3

Most users will be interested in other things in iOS 10.3, but the biggest change Apple has made is under the hood. In iOS 10.3, all compatible iPhones and iPads switch to the new file system Apple File System, which the Californian company created for its ecosystem.

Users will not feel any changes while using it for the time being, but when all operating systems and products gradually switch to APFS, Apple will be able to take full advantage of the new options. What the new file system brings, si you can read in our article about APFS.

In iOS 10.3, AirPods owners get a handy way to locate their headphones with Find My iPhone, which displays the current or last known location of the AirPods. If you can't find the headphones, you can also "ring" them.

Apple has prepared a very useful new feature for Settings, where it has unified all the information associated with your Apple ID, such as personal information, passwords, payment information and paired devices. Everything can now be found under your name as the first item in Settings, including a detailed breakdown of how much space you have on iCloud. You can clearly see how much space is taken up by e.g. photos, backups, documents or e-mail.

iOS 10.3 will also please developers who have the ability to respond to reviews of their apps in the App Store. At the same time, new app rating challenges will start appearing in iOS 10.3. Apple has decided to offer developers a unified interface, and in the future, the user will also have the option to prevent all rating prompts. And if the developer wants to change the application icon, he will no longer have to issue an update in the App Store.

Cinema in watchOS 3.2 and night mode in macOS 10.12.4

As expected, Apple also released the final versions of new versions of operating systems for watches and computers. In the Watch with watchOS 3.2, users will find Theater Mode, which is used to silence your watch in the theater or cinema, where spontaneous lighting of the display may be undesirable.

Cinema mode turns off just this – lighting up the display after turning the wrist – and at the same time completely silences the Watch. You are so sure that you will not disturb anyone, not even yourself, in the cinema. However, when you receive a notification, your watch will vibrate and you can click on the digital crown to display it if necessary. Cinema mode is activated by sliding the panel from the bottom of the screen.

Macs also have one significant new feature in macOS 10.12.4. A year after its debut in iOS, a night mode is also coming to Apple computers, which changes the color of the display to warmer tones in poor lighting conditions to reduce harmful blue light. For night mode, you can set whether you want to activate it automatically (and when) and also adjust the color temperature.

iWork 3.1 brings support for Touch ID and a wider range of options

In addition to operating systems, Apple also released an update for its suite of office applications iWork for iOS. Pages, Keynote, and Numbers all get Touch ID support in version 3.1, which means you can lock any document you want. If you do so, you can of course unlock them again with Touch ID on the new MacBook Pro, or with a password on other devices.

All three applications have one new feature in common, namely improved text formatting. You can now also use superscripts and subscripts, ingots or add a colored background under the text in Pages, Numbers or Keynote. If the application finds an unsupported font in your document, you can easily replace it.

Pages 3.1 then brings the possibility to add bookmarks to the text, which you will not see directly in the text, but you can have them all displayed in the sidebar. Some users will certainly be pleased with the possibility of importing and exporting documents in RTF. Mathematicians and others will appreciate the support for LaTeX and MathML symbols.

Keynote 3.1 offers a practice presentation mode, thanks to which you can practice your presentation in different display modes and with a stopwatch before the sharp premiere. In addition, you can add notes to individual images during training.

However, those who actively use Keynote will probably appreciate the ability to change the Master slide format the most. You can also easily change the color of the images. Keynote presentations can be posted on supported platforms such as WordPress or Medium and viewed on the web.

In Numbers 3.1, there is improved support for tracking stocks, which means, for example, adding a live stock field to the spreadsheet, and the whole experience of entering data and creating various formulas has been improved.

Apple TV can now be controlled from an iPad

Those who have an Apple TV and an iPad at home probably expected this update much earlier, but the expected update for the Apple TV Remote application, which brings full support for the iPad, arrived only now. With Apple TV Remote 1.1, you can finally control Apple TV not only from an iPhone, but also from an iPad, which many will certainly appreciate.
