Apple Mon June performance and after intensive testing released the final version of the operating system OS X Yosemite for Mac is a free download. Version 10.10 brings significant changes to the look and feel of iOS, with which OS X Yosemite is closely related. Collaboration between iPhones and iPads and Macs is now easier than ever.
OS X Yosemite was historically the first system that Apple released for public testing, so many users tried the latest operating system with a modern and clean graphical interface ahead of time. Anyone with a supported machine can now install the successor to OS X Mavericks for free (computers up to 2007 are supported, see below).
[do action=”infobox-2″]Computers compatible with OS X Yosemite:
- iMac (Mid 2007 and newer)
- MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 and later)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 and later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 and later), (17-inch, Late 2007 and later)
- MacBook Air (Late 2008 and newer)
- Mac Mini (Early 2009 and later)
- Mac Pro (Early 2008 and later)
- Xserve (Early 2009)[/to]
The design language of OS X Yosemite is aligned with the latest versions of iOS, the environment is flatter and brighter, instead of a plastic gray surface, Apple has opted for modern partially transparent windows and much more vivid and expressive colors. A fundamental change is also the changed typography, which you will notice at first glance. After many years, the appearance of the dock is changing in OS X, which is no longer plastic, but the icons are moving from the imaginary silver shelf to the classic vertical position, as it was in the first versions of OS X. The key word if we want to characterize the new operating system is "continuity". Apple has decided to significantly integrate computers with mobile devices, so it is now possible to receive calls, write text messages from an iPhone on a Mac, and also easily switch from divided work in individual applications from an iPhone or iPad to a Mac and vice versa. Following the example of iOS 8, the Notification Center has been improved and the Spotlight system search engine has also received significant updates. The four-leaf clover of basic applications has also undergone innovation. Safari has been greatly reduced in OS X Yosemite, the control elements are visible on the top bar as little as possible and the maximum emphasis is placed on the content. The system e-mail client got a significantly simpler and cleaner interface. Mail is now much more similar to the same application from the iPad and can send up to 5GB attachments as well as very easily edit photos or PDF files directly in the client window. In Yosemite, messaging finally gets all the features from iOS, including group messaging that can also be easily unsubscribed from. The Finder has remained more or less unchanged except for slightly different colors and the shape of the icons, but it finally works within it to connect to iOS devices via AirDrop and at the same time iCloud Drive appears in it. They probably have a lot... :D "This item is temporarily unavailable."
Try closing and opening the App Store, then I was able to download it.
I'm already downloading :3 But the speed is not so much... :D
it's already going, it was out all over the world
I probably won't download it today :D
they didn't say anything about the "Photos" application, which will also replace Aperture
when will it be
It's not yet this year :(
How does the installation work? Will I keep all my data and installed programs, even those I don't have from the app store? (Otherwise, of course, I will also make a backup)
When I installed the betas, it all remained. It will be the same.
can you advise me how to update my public beta to the final version? I don't see it in the updates
Download Yosemite from the Appstore and then let it install¨
Can someone with a sharp version tell me the build number please? I have the GM version, I don't want to reinstall it unnecessarily. ;) Thanks.
X
Thanks, it will reinstall. ;)
An update should come out by the evening, a new installation is unnecessary.
How is the Continuity team? Which Macs does it work on and which ones doesn't? Thanks
Well, I already found it. As I feared, I'm out of the game :(
Would you recommend backing up before upgrading? I really don't want to, I can't wait. Hello
Tyvol, I woke up 4 times during the night to find out how the installation progressed, or download, started downloading at 1am, installed at 5am and it's a blast, fully tweaked UI, I'm stoked. :D
I'm a little worried that apple missed something.
The first problem was the iCloud password constantly popping up even though I was logged in. It was not possible to get rid of it, my internet went to work here and dozens of windows popped up like in Windows 98 when it went into a loop. Well, then I found out that I'm on a different Wi-Fi than I'm used to and it's weaker, but again I say Internet went, so I logged in, entered the password a few more times and it's good.
Well, nothing, I work with open chrome, FF, skype, hamatchi, outlook, safari, filezil and classical apple services, I need everything for work like this, I've never had a single problem. All of a sudden, my whole computer freezes, I reach for the fan silently and it was boiling, I restart the processor after booting to 98 degrees, now the fan doesn't blow at all and I'm over 70, so that's enough, I didn't drive it.
Well, we'll see, anyway, even if a third-party application did it, it's not possible for the CPU to overheat because the fan won't start. On Mevrik, everything is fine all the time, I updated Mevrik on the day of release, I have it all the time. Well, we'll see. Apple should take me as a tester because I really use the notebook :) at full power and simply if I have the Pro version, it is calculated that they buy it with a profit that they will really use that power.
It shouldn't be possible to turn off the fan with some application, even iStat menus can't do it (they can only speed it up, never slow it down). Maybe the SMC is going crazy and a reset will help: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Well, I don't think so either, I'll try, in any case, the Mac is a bit slow after the update. I'll try this and go through the applications to see if I needlessly clean it up a bit and see.
So I rebooted, the fan finally turns on, but I have safari 6 windows, audio and finder running and I have 65-75 degrees, it's strong, it burns like crazy, according to the processor activity, it just loads 6%, but it still burns like crazy, it doesn't work be on your feet.
Does anyone have a similar problem here? I'll try to disconnect it from Cinema if I don't come back to Mevrik because this is about nothing. It must be some combination of something I don't know, I already turned off the spotlight because it was probably indexing something, but that didn't help either. Now I'm at 60, but as soon as I launch any application or start something, it goes up to 80 degrees and it melts from above and below as if I were editing a video and had a load of 80%
So I think you won't be the only one, because the MacBook Pro Late 2011 is now running smoothly at around 68-70C :-/ In Maverick it was stable around 50-54C :-(
Well, among other things, I can't restart the computer, if I restart it, it starts to end with a black screen and nothing, I have to turn it off hard and turn it on again, it does the same thing, like this apple definitely couldn't handle it. I hope that there will be enough users to start solving it immediately.
For me, the high temperatures were caused by the Spotlight Web Content processes - they are not immediately visible under this name in the Activity Monitor list, but some URL always appears there (so they can mistakenly think that it is Safari), which process in fact you can find out after clicking info. I got rid of it by setting Spotlight, so System preferences - Spotlight - and turn off Spotlight Suggestions, Bookmarks & History and Bing Web Searches here. Since then I have temperatures like in Mavericks, until then it was min. + 10 degree and more.
Spotlight was the first thing I turned off and I don't use it anyway, it's a fact that since then it's been quiet and the blackout has only happened once. But the temperatures should still be higher, but this is probably due to the fact that Yosemite is still much quieter, so the fan setting is really high, it runs at min. or it is completely burnt to the limit of 95-98 degrees Celsius, it will speed up but not much. I don't know how it is with you, I hope that Apple has consulted with Intel and it doesn't shorten the life of the processor, but it can be assumed that it will last 10 years and the notebook is already such a scrap that it probably doesn't matter.
Well, I already have quite a dig, MBP 13″ mid-2010, and as far as cooling is concerned, it behaved exactly the same for me in every version of the system since 10.6, which was originally there. That is above 80-85 degrees revs are increased as needed from the basic 2000 rpm. I don't know what you mean by turning off the fan, because as far as I know, macbooks have not been turning off the fan for quite a few years, it runs under all circumstances (only at the basic revolutions you can't hear it until you put your ear to the exhaust).
Well, another disappointment from Apple for me.
I have an older (still 17") MacBook. And I'll stick with it until it inevitably expires (and then I'll have a serious problem, because I don't want to get used to a smaller display - maybe Hackintosh will solve it).
The previous version worked flawlessly and perfectly smoothly on it.
After upgrading to Yosemite, the user interface crashes (=animations are anything but smooth).
Plus I'm a bit worried that it will overheat - the fan won't stop at all (yes, the indexing has already taken place).
I hope this is a classic problem of marketing winning over common sense, and that the next version will fix it again quickly...
Please, which 17″ version do you have? I have the latest 2011 model with AMD graphics.
I'm interested too. So for now I'm sticking with Mav. Lately, what Apple is reaching for is worth it. It probably won't be as nice design and functionality as Snow Leopard had. :-(
Of course, it's slower and it's not as well tuned as Mavericks, but even at the beginning it was in that state. I've been using Yosemite for about 2 months now and haven't encountered any major problems, except that it's a bit slower and my late 2008 MacBook Pro struggles with it sometimes. But it can be used just fine for normal work and surfing. Otherwise, I would still recommend trying a clean install.
Unfortunately, it's MID 2010 - it can't even be upgraded to 16MB RAM :(
There is one technician. By installing, you agree to the terms of use. But they are not yet available on the website. http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX1010.pdf
So that people don't wonder what they actually agreed to. to parties http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/ this non-existent link is found under the link to the license http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX1010.pdf
OS X Yosemite downloads very slowly for me, it says download over 2 days. Do they have overloaded servers??
For some reason, sending SMS from Yosemite doesn't work for me, I can call from Mac without any problem, but the SMS messages just don't work. Does anyone have the same problem? Or does anyone know what to do with it? Thanks
I have the same problem. I can call, but in iMessage it says that the number is not registered in the iMessage service. When I want to send an SMS
It will only work from 8.1 and you need to have bluetooth 4.0 in your Mac
For some reason, calling via iPhone (5S, iOS 8.0.2) does not work for me. It simply says that the iPhone is not available. At the same time, I have Wifi, BT is also turned on. Any idea what could be wrong?
It helped me sign in and out of apple id on mac and iphone. But sending text messages from Mac still doesn't work for me. At least I can call.
Sending SMS messages will work with iOS 8.1. Here I tried the incoming call and it works. I just can't initiate a call on the Macbook.
I hope so. However, in the message hint on Mac, they say that iOS 8 is sufficient.
"To send and receive SMS and MMS messages on your Mac, you need an iPhone running iOS 8 signed in to iMessage under the same Apple ID."
So SMS doesn't work for me either :o) We'll try to wait for iOS 8.1. However, the HandOff function does not work for me personally, how is it working for you? :)
I am completely satisfied with Yosemite!
Hello, I would like to help with a problem. After installing on Yosemite, sharing doesn't work for me and the notification center is empty except for the following events and doesn't alert me to anything, I can't move it. Could someone give me some advice?
You have to check in the settings in iCloud to see if everything is turned on there, or then look in the notifications. In the notification center, you have to click on edit at the bottom and customize it to your liking.
I tried everything but nothing. It always referred me to system settings->extensions and there, even if I uncheck everything, it doesn't show anything else.
A little searching is usually enough: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6602864 … I had the same problem
Does anyone happen to know how to change the system font to Lucida Grande?
There is a utility "Lucida Grande Yosemite 1.0.zip" - google for help.
Great, thank you.
Hi, don't know what to do with this? After the upgrade I can't boot the os, I tried cmd + ra to reinstall and it didn't help.
At startup, hold ALT, as one of the options it should give you Disk Utility, so turn it on and use it to either reinstall the system or repair it.
So this doesn't work. I hold ALT, but it completely ignores it, only pressing CMD R and then restoring from backup helps. Unfortunately, after restoring from a backup, e.g. MAIL does not work, which wants to import emails from exchange into the new version of MAIL, but never completes the import. I don't know what to do with it at all, but upgrading to Yosemite is probably not for me. If anyone knows how to do it, please share petr.janda@hotmail.com
So secondly, this great system does not allow uploading images from the iPad. :/
...
Hello, I want to ask if anyone has problems with the Mail application after the upgrade, it happens that buttons do not work, mails and mailboxes are meaninglessly labeled by groups, etc. and the application is more unstable, but it only happens in mail... Everything else is fine
I have a problem with the Mail app. It worked normally after the upgrade. I turned on my Mac today and nothing. The application starts, but no window appears. Standard procedures do not work (restarting the application and the Mac). Help! Hello
Taking into account repeated experiences with previous systems, I will wait at least half a year until Apple solves the problems and, above all, until the manufacturers of printers and plotters make their updates. For example, the Japanese Graphtec was never in much of a hurry.
OSX Yosemite pleasantly surprised me with its design, it works well and fast in itself. I just don't know how to deal with this terrible intuitive "continuity", I have an iPhone placed with a MAC on the same Wi-Fi and neither shows the slightest sign of connection and none of the lures work. Does anyone know how to get the link? Thanks to J.
It works for me, turn on bluetooth. And enable handoff in general settings. You must also be signed in under the same iCloud account. :)
Thank you, but I was looking for it in vain. My MacBook Pro Early 2011 is not on the supported list. It's sad that Apple is writing off devices that otherwise work great. It seems crazy to me to go to the store and buy a MacBook for 50-60 thousand. with the fact that in 3 years it will no longer support everything...
From what I know, it won't be on older MacBooks et al. Handoff function, i.e. scheduled mail will not be completed on the iPhone and the like. However, receiving calls using a Mac works. I have personally tried it and it works quite reliably, only the response is a little worse because of the router. Specifically, it takes me a while for the Mac to respond that there is an incoming call. It is turned on, somewhat inexplicably, in Settings in FaceTime. There is a Cellular Calls on iPhone item that will trigger this link.
You're just as confused as everyone else, handoff will work on older Macs (that's calls and sms), it only requires wifi, continuity won't work, which is really smooth continuation of work in different apps and requires bluetooth 4.
So I managed to set up a call in the iPhone's FaceTime settings, but the delay is pathetic. Can they also enable SMS in MAC messenger?
There is still a problem with AirDrop. It works as always. The search takes a long time and when I can no longer send anything, they "tell" each other that the other device rejected the file, while no request came. Finally, after 20 minutes, I sent a few files, but it was so painfully slow that I'd rather go get a flash drive. all this on imac and macbook for both 2014
Same with handoff/continuity. Very difficult to reconcile. Mail works like this once in 15 attempts. Safari anyway. I have no idea how to make the call. I was interested in what they are presenting it on when it works great for them there and very difficult in the sharp final version.
Then it's pretty bugged, wifi is terribly slow and it didn't even send me drivers for the printer... :/
Is there any major reason to upgrade from 10.9.5. except for "better" cooperation with iOS? I would also have to upgrade Parallels and I don't really want that :-/
Parallels can be updated for free. I've personally tried it and they work without any problems.
I am using Parallels in version 8, the free update probably won't work from that...
I didn't mean to update to a new version. I do have version 9 and this was just an update to make it work under the new OS.
I lasted exactly 2 hours in Yosemite. now I'm riding a maverick again and that's how it's going to stay. as with ios, I left 5.1.1. I simply do not give the naively infantile design.
I totally agree, it's another design gem from Apple... It started with iOS 7 - and where does it end? I suggest a white font as intense as possible on a white background - but Apple, would you like it? ... (And just like you, I'm staying with 10.9 and iOS 6.)
Don't you know how to get rid of it? I tried using disk utility according to the instructions on the Internet, but I couldn't find Yosemite there...
Loud, colorful and unmistakable as from the circus... What is it? Professional system or Hello Kitty for children and hipsters?
Don't download it! In MPlayerX, if you play a movie and select Fullscreen, the image drops out. When turned off, the computer stops charging…
Prefer to use VLC? Sometimes MPlayerX managed to piss me off even in Snow Leopard.
I have this system on my MBP 15″ early 2011 and have been driving it for a few days now. I wouldn't risk installing an upgrade on an old, tired installation, something might go wrong, it might stop working or the system might not start at all. So I installed it on a new SSD as an upgrade to a clean install of Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Although there were negative references on the Appstore that the system would be slow on the old machine, I did not let that deter me from installing. The system installed without any major problems. So far Yosemite seems to work better on my machine than the original system for it. I just have to change the driver for NTFS.
The graphic design seems to me to be from the 80s.
Another thing that probably not everyone will solve right away is the improved Terminal, a window with a command line. For example, as part of my work duties, I connect to Unix-based machines.. I am very happy with the Terminal on Yosemite that its use is even more similar to the terminal in GNU/Linux. I rate OS X as such that it can make a Unix system more user-friendly.
