The first update of the new OS X Mountain Lion system was released today. Although it doesn't bring new features, it fixes a lot of bugs. The delta update takes up around 8MB, so it's really a small update. Mountain Lion 10.8.1 fixes the following:
- Fix for unexpected termination of the Data Transfer Wizard
- Improved compatibility with Microsoft Exchange from the Mail application
- Fixed issue with audio playback via Thunderbolt Display
- Fixed an issue that prevented iMessage from being sent
- Fixed a problem when logging in to SMB servers using a long login name
- Fix for degraded response when using pinyin input method
Some developers who have tested the update also claim that it should solve the problem of fast draining MacBooks, which, for example, owners of MacBook Pro with Retina display have experienced after switching to Mountain Lion. At the same time, Apple sent out a beta version of the 10.8.2 update to developers, asking them to focus on Messages, Facebook, Game Center, Safari, and Reminders.
I was kind of expecting fixes mainly in the notification center :-/. Maybe next time.
What needs to be fixed in the Notification Center? :)
Somehow, after installing it, I have a problem connecting to free wifi :( ... so I don't know if it's a bug or something with me
it makes us ten mba mbp. the installation of new ones helped and until it was solved. the previous procedure of deleting the wifi cache or anything else does not work.
Thanks for the info, it's true that I didn't even try it on 10.8, so I had a feeling that only 10.8.1 combined with MBP Retina does it
I have a problem with QuarkXPress after installing Mountain. It keeps unexpectedly falling and falling and falling. :-(
After the update, a window appeared with the message that OSX ML will be installed (OSX will be installed on disk...) - i.e. the installer. But I already have it installed.
This is pretty misleading - it deserves some explanation - what if it does a clean install for me and I have to restore everything from TimeMachine and what doesn't restore from TimeMachine I have to catch up manually (eg Apache settings)?
Does anyone know what this means and what to do with it?
Since no one answered, I backed up and tried to let it go.
And sure enough, the operating system reinstalled again. Most of it recovered (basically everything in my user directory and applications).
However, system things were lost as usual (Python libraries, Apache's own complex settings, etc.).
It looks like a bug in the OSX installer: It wants to reinstall to Mountain Lion when Mountain Lion is already there and upgraded to 10.8.1...
So I warn others - don't let it go, you'll lose your time completely and add some extra work to install things that were lost by reinstalling OSX (probably it won't affect regular users).
The update is done via "updates" not via installation. Probably born from ios, sometimes the program needs to be reinstalled. :)
Hmmmm... but that's a stupid answer - reinstall the current version of the entire operating system, which works flawlessly - and then manually reinstall what the reinstall canceled?
Just for interest - before I started the "required reinstall" the OS version was 10.8.1 - after the "required reinstall" the version was back to OS 10.8.0 and I had to install the update again (for the second time).
Also, it didn't cycle :(
well, I was waiting for a fix for the fact that wifi turns off when waking up from sleep :( the internet is full of pissed off people :(
