Apple made a rather surprising move this week, updating the AirPort Utility app for iOS. Apple ended production and development of AirPort devices at the end of April last year, but continues to support this product line if needed.

The latest AirPort Utility update includes security improvements, for example, as well as general stability improvements. Some users have complained in the past about experiencing issues with the app after upgrading to iOS 13. The task of solving these is the current update.

Apple describes the update as "contains general stability and security improvements." For now, the company is keeping more detailed information about what kind of security improvement it is. This summer, Apple released security updates for AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and Time Capsule devices, but the AirPort Utility app has been updated for the first time in more than a year.

Apple first officially announced in 2017 that it has no plans to release successors to its routers from the AirPort product line, and that its software development is ending. A year later came the announcement of the complete cancellation of this product line. As for the hardware update, AirPort Express received it in 2012, and AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule a year later. As one of the reasons, Apple cited its effort to focus more intensively on the development of products that generate the most profit for the company.
