Apple has released a statement that it is launching an event in which it will reimburse selected customers for service replacement of batteries in iPhones. This is another response to the issue of battery wear and their effect on phone performance.

You are eligible for a $50 refund if you meet several conditions that Apple has set for this promotion. If you had your iPhone 2017 or newer battery replaced during post-warranty service sometime in 6, either directly with Apple or at an authorized service center, Apple will contact you next month with instructions on how to get that $50 gain.

If the aforementioned exchange took place outside the network of authorized service centers, or took place within the AppleCare program, you are not entitled to a refund of $50. If you meet the conditions from the second paragraph, you will most likely receive an email with further instructions between today and July 27.

The $50 is the difference in price for this service. Before the whole case, Apple charged $79 for a battery replacement. Now there is a special event in which Apple offers a post-warranty battery exchange for discounted $29. Users who thus paid for this service themselves last year will be reimbursed for this price difference. Discounted battery replacement promotion ends on December 31, 2018.
