Apple released a new one today support document, which warns users about a security bug related to keyboards in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13. Third-party keyboards can either work independently without access to external services or require full access in the mentioned operating systems. As part of this approach, they are then able to provide other useful services to the user. But a bug appeared in iOS 13 and iPadOS, due to which external keyboards can gain full access even when the user has not approved them.

This does not apply to native keyboards from Apple, nor does it interfere in any way with third-party keyboards that do not use the aforementioned full access. Third-party keyboard extensions can either work independently in iOS, i.e. without access to external services, or they can provide additional functionality to the user through a network connection as part of full access.

According to Apple, this bug will be fixed in the next update of the operating systems. You can get an overview of installed third-party keyboards in Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Keyboard. Apple advises users who are concerned about the security of their data in connection with this to temporarily uninstall all third-party keyboards until the issue is resolved.
