The situation with the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has intensified considerably. US President Joe Biden has said that Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this conflict brings, and that the US and its allies will respond. And then there is Apple, an American company. Of course, there are some iPhones here only in the last row, because in war, lives count, not pieces of electronics sold. However, let's see what this means for this company.

Ukraine

Although Apple does not have its own Apple Store in Ukraine, to some extent in the country exposes, or at least he tried to. It has been slowly adding Ukrainian to its applications and websites, and in July 2020 it registered the company Apple Ukraine. He also advertised for vacancies, although the company subsequently neither confirmed nor denied the fact in what respect it intends to enter the market there (of course there was speculation about the Apple Store). We see it similarly in our country, when various requests for vacancies are posted, but we do not have any detailed information (except that it should be about the situation around the Czech Siri).

Since Apple did not even have an official service center in Ukraine, local users repaired their devices in unofficial services, which of course were not always reliable. In March of last year, Apple announced that it will cooperate with Ukrainian repair shops and will also supply unofficial services with its original parts and tools that they need to repair the company's equipment. There was also talk of a branch of the company, which could thus directly control the stores.

At the end of last year in addition, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Apple Inc. concluded and Apple Ukraine an agreement, directly in the presence of President Volodymyr Zelensky, that the company will help the country define key projects on the way to "paperless" services. This is especially in connection with the planned census, which is to take place in 2023. Ukraine would be only the second country where such cooperation would take place, after the USA, of course. But it was also supposed to increase the level of digital literacy among citizens.

We are not political scientists to infer US actions towards the conflict, and of course we have no idea what actions Apple might take. However, given the depressing news, it can contribute to the aid and recovery of the country, i.e. Ukraine. This is a fairly common practice for the company, as they do so after the destroyers natural disasters. But that's exactly the problem. This is about politics. Given the aforementioned service involvement, Apple could also subsidize service repairs here.

Russia

With its steps to support Ukraine, Apple could antagonize Russian officials and could stumble in this market, from which it derives significant profits. Although it does not provide its own Apple Store here either, it tries to be as involved as possible here, and therefore tolerates various regulations from the Russian side. It must be said that Russia itself does not have anything to do with Apple either, because it is fine steam fine for app market abuse. Both Apple and Google also removed mobile apps linked to jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny from their online stores last year on national election day after their Russian employees were reportedly threatened with jail if the government's requests were denied.

But more "interestingly" is that Russia has ordered companies operating in the country to open their offices here. They had until the end of last year, and even if Apple didn't make it, he made it by February 4th. In addition, it became the first company to meet these Kremlin rules. But now, if he takes the side of Ukraine, he exposes his employees to possible danger. It is rather unlikely that Apple itself would decide to boycott the Russian market, but it is more likely that the American government will order it to do so.
