American dailies New York Times a Wall Street Journal came with the news that Apple is indeed working on a smartwatch that should use flexible glass technology. The consumer electronics market is currently experiencing a big boom in devices worn on the body, only at CES it was possible to see several smart watch solutions, among which the most interesting Pebble. However, if Apple did indeed enter the game, it would be a big step for the entire product category. A lot of attention is currently going towards Google Glass smart glasses, so the smartwatch could be Apple's answer.

According to New York Times sources, Apple is currently experimenting with different concepts and device shapes. One of the input interfaces should be Siri, which would be used for overall control of the watch via voice, however, it can be assumed that the device will also be controllable by touch, similar to the 6th generation iPod nano, which practically became the source of all the buzz around smart watches from California companies.

However, the most interesting material that Apple should use is on the current report from the American dailies. Flexible glass is nothing new. She announced to the company a year ago Corning, the manufacturer Gorilla Glass, which Apple uses in its iOS devices, the display Willow Glass. This thin and flexible material would suit the purpose of a smart watch exactly. For New York Times the CTO commented on the possibility of its use Corning Pete Bocko:

"It can certainly be made to wrap itself around an oval object, which could be someone's hand, for example. Now, if I were trying to make something that looked like a watch, it could be made out of this flexible glass.

However, the human body moves in unpredictable ways. It is one of the most difficult mechanical challenges.”

Apple's watch would probably use an interface similar to the iPod touch, or a cut-down version of iOS would be used. The sources of both periodicals do not comment on the possible functions, but most of them can be estimated. The watch would then communicate with the phone via Bluetooth.

Apparently, however, we won't see the watch this year. The project should only be in the phase of experimentation and testing of various options. Wall Street Journal claims that Apple has already discussed possible production with China's Foxconn, which is said to be working on technology that could be used for smartwatch purposes. New York Times finally, he adds that there are also enthusiasts for similar devices among Apple's top management. Tim Cook is supposed to be a big fan Nike Fuel Band, while Bob Mansfield is captivated by similar devices that connect via Bluetooth to the iPhone.

Devices worn on the body are definitely the future of consumer electronics, as this year's CES also showed. Technology is becoming more and more personal, and soon many of us will be wearing some kind of accessory, whether it's a fitness bracelet, smart glasses or a watch. The trend is set and Apple will probably not want to be left behind. Unfortunately, for the time being, these are still unsubstantiated claims from sources whose credibility is easily questionable.
