The second developer beta version of the systems they're barely out and we're already learning about new features. One of the most interesting is the ability to sync Apple TV audio with tvOS 13 using an iPhone running iOS 13.

The new function is called "Wireless Audio Sync" in the English translation of iOS 13 and is especially useful in situations where you have external speakers connected to your Apple TV. In Cupertino, this time they focused on a fairly well-known problem, where sometimes the sound is delayed or accelerated compared to the image.

This is because the television processes the image at a different time than the audio is sent to the speakers. So sometimes even this small response can cause differences between images and sound. This phenomenon is most noticeable when the characters speak, when the sound does not correspond to the movement of the lips.

Of course, everything varies depending on the conditions and equipment. After all, that's also the reason why Apple TV can't sync everything by itself.

The change now comes with the thirteenth version of tvOS and iOS. After connecting the device to the Apple TV, you can use the new menu in the Apple TV settings. You will then be presented with a dialog box called "Wireless Audio Sync", which is strikingly similar to those when pairing AirPods or HomePod.

Then just use an iPhone or iPad with iOS 13 (iPadOS) and follow the instructions on the screen. Apple TV will try to sync audio based on the response it gets from the device's microphone. It then stores the measured response in memory and uses it for sound synchronization.

Due to the one-time saving of the profile, it will be necessary to perform this "calibration" every time the configuration is changed. That is, if you buy new speakers or a TV. It will probably be possible to retry the synchronization even with a different placement of the speakers in the room.

The feature looks useful and interesting, we are not yet able to assess its real impact and will require testing.

Both iOS 13 and tvOS 13 are currently available in closed developer beta. It should be available to the public for testing during July.
