Pre-Christmas shopping is starting to take off. On a related note, Thinknum has provided an interesting look at how Apple TV 4K has soared in popularity over the past few weeks. Thinknum is based on data provided by shopping platform Best Buy, according to which the Apple TV is second only to Amazon's Fire TV Stick in terms of sales.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick leads the overseas sales chart of 4K streaming devices by a clear margin, but it is closely followed by the 32GB version of the latest Apple TV model, despite the significantly higher purchase price. The player from Apple's workshop has really gained a lot of popularity in the last year and has overtaken even popular, more affordable devices such as Roku or Google Chromecast.

Apple TV has had significant problems with mainstream consumer adoption. The fault was mainly the disproportionately high price compared to other devices of this type. But with the launch of the 4K model last year, things gradually began to change. The graph in the gallery clearly shows how rapidly her popularity has risen in a short period of time.

Most TVs sold today are 4K UHD, and all the major streaming services – Netflix, iTunes, Prime Video and others – offer content in this resolution. Although the competition offers significantly more affordable devices for watching content in 4K, it seems that consumers have started to prefer the more expensive solution from Apple due to the easier integration with other Apple services. Thinknum also says that when it went on sale, consumers weren't ready for streaming - so the Apple TV's relative initial failure, he says, was mainly because it was simply ahead of its time.
