Apple has introduced a new program called the "Repair Vintage Apple Products Pilot" that extends the amount of time customers can get their older devices repaired. For example, the iPhone 5, which was declared obsolete this week, will be included in the new program, as well as other old Apple devices. The list of products that Apple will repair under the program will continue to expand. It's worth noting that the mid-2012 MacBook Air is also on the list.

Devices that can be repaired under the program:

  • iPhone 5
  • MacBook Air (11″, mid 2012)
  • MacBook Air (13″, mid 2012)
  • iMac (21,5″, Mid 2011) – United States and Turkey only
  • iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) - United States and Turkey only

The iPhone 4S and the mid-2012 2012-inch MacBook Pro should soon be added to the list. This will be followed by the Late 2013 2012-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, the 2012-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display from early 30, the MacBook Pro Retina mid XNUMX and the Mac Pro Mid XNUMX The named devices will be included in the program on December XNUMX of this year.

Apple gives its customers a period of five to seven years to repair their products, so they can use the services of the company itself and authorized services even after the warranty period for their devices has expired. After the mentioned period, the products are usually marked as obsolete and the service personnel do not have the relevant components available for repair. Apple will only offer repairs under the program based on the availability of replacement parts, which can sometimes be problematic for outdated products - so the program does not guarantee a repair in every case. Even so, this is a pleasant departure from Apple's previous approach to older products.
