Apple has announced the next steps it will take in the case of worn batteries and slow iPhones. If you haven't been watching the internet for the past three weeks, you may have missed the latest case involving iPhones being deliberately slowed down when their batteries reach a certain level of degradation. After exceeding this point, the processor (together with the GPU) is underclocked and the phone is slower, less responsive and does not achieve such results in demanding processes and applications. Apple acknowledged the move before Christmas, and now more information has surfaced on the web that is relevant to those affected by the slowdown.

The company posted on its website official open letter, in which (among other things) they apologize to users for how Apple approached this case and how it (mis)communicated it with customers. As part of their repentance, he comes up with a solution that should (ideally) excuse this action.

Starting at the end of January, Apple will reduce the price of battery replacement for affected devices (i.e. iPhone 6/6 Plus and newer) from $79 to $29. This price change will be global and should be reflected in all markets. Therefore, even in the Czech Republic we will probably see a reduction in the price for this operation at official services. This "event" will last until December next year. Until then, you will be able to use this discount for post-warranty battery replacement. The company said in the letter that more information will follow in the coming weeks.

The second innovation will be a software solution that informs the user at the moment when the battery in his phone reaches the limit, after which the performance of the processor and graphics accelerator is reduced. Apple intends to implement this system in iOS sometime next year, as part of the next update. More information regarding both the battery replacement and this new software feature will be available in January on the company's official website. We'll let you know as soon as they appear here. Are you planning to take advantage of discounted battery replacements?
