Apple is indeed preparing a Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS and XR. This is what it will look like

We are at the end of the last working week they brought news that Apple is going to revive the controversial Smart Battery Case, specifically for this year's iPhone models. The preparation of the second version was revealed by watchOS 5.1.2 codes, where a new icon showing the changed design of the charging case appeared. The fact has now been reconfirmed by the foreign magazine 9to5mac, which has already obtained a photo of the product and, along with it, information that the packaging will be available for all three new iPhones.

Following last week's discovery, the server managed to find indications in iOS that Apple is preparing a total of three different variants of the cover, specifically with the designations A2070, A2071 and A2171. The new version of the Smart Battery Case will thus be available for iPhone XS, iPhone XR and even iPhone XS Max. It is the variant for the last mentioned model that is quite surprising, because in the past Apple offered its rechargeable case only for a smaller model with a lower battery life.

Along with the new version of the Smart Battery Case comes a new design. The previous variant evoked conflicting impressions and became the target of criticism and ridicule, especially because of the protruding battery. At one point, the Battery Case was referred to as nothing more than a "hump case". Perhaps this is also why Apple decided to change the appearance of the accessory, and now the protruding part is extended to the edges and the lower part of the back. The front of the package will also change, where the phone will reach to the bottom edge. Thanks to this, the new Smart Battery Case should have a larger battery.

And when will we actually get a new battery pack for this year's iPhones? Codes in iOS indicate that the novelty should go on sale this year. But the end of the year is almost over, and it seems unlikely that Apple would start selling a new product in mid-December - especially if it would be an ideal Christmas gift that would come at the last minute. However, even the first version of the Smart Battery Case hit retailers' shelves in December 2015, and even AirPods went on sale on December 13. So let's be surprised.
