For iPad users, the Apple Pencil is slowly becoming an integral part of their equipment. This is a great accessory that can be helpful in many ways and make work easier, for example when studying or working. Specifically, it can be used for practically everything, from simple system control, to writing notes, to drawing or graphics. So it's no wonder that this product enjoys considerable popularity.

For a long time, however, there has also been speculation about whether it would not be worth bringing support for the Apple Pencil to apple laptops as well. In this case, a rather interesting discussion opens up. If we wanted support for the mentioned touch pen, we probably wouldn't be able to do without a touch screen, which puts us in front of more and more problems. At the core of the discussion, however, we revolve around one and the same question. Would the arrival of the Apple Pencil for MacBooks actually be beneficial, or is it a lost battle?

Apple Pencil support for MacBooks

As we mentioned above, for the arrival of the Apple Pencil on MacBooks, we probably couldn't do without a touch screen, which Apple has successfully resisted for years. As you may know, Steve Jobs was already strongly against the introduction of touch screens for laptops in general, and he even had several tests run to confirm his opinion. In any case, the result was the same - in short, their use is not as convenient and simple as with tablets, and therefore it is not appropriate to resort to such a change. However, time has moved on, we have hundreds of touchscreen laptops or 2-in-1 devices on the market, and many manufacturers like to experiment with this concept.

If Apple did allow and actually bring a touchscreen combined with support for the Apple Pencil, would that actually be good news? When we think about it, it doesn't even have to be. In short, the MacBook is not an iPad and cannot be manipulated so easily, for which Apple would most likely pay extra. You can try to grab an ordinary pencil and circle for a while at a safe distance from the display of your MacBook as if you wanted to use the Apple Pencil. Your hand will probably hurt very quickly and you will generally not experience a pleasant experience. The touch pen from Apple is very functional, but you can't simply put it on everywhere.

Solution

The solution to the mentioned problem could be if the MacBook changed a little and became a 2-in-1 device. Of course, the idea itself sounds quite crazy and it is more or less clear that we will not see anything similar from Apple. After all, apple tablets can fulfill this role. All you have to do is connect a keyboard to them, and you get a functional product that also has support for the Apple Pencil. So the implementation of its support for MacBooks is in the stars. For now, however, it looks like he probably won't get many chances.

Will we ever see changes?

In conclusion, it is appropriate to focus on whether similar changes in the form of support for the Apple Pencil, touch screen, or the transition to a 2-in-1 device will ever be seen in MacBooks. As we mentioned above, for now these ideas seem highly unrealistic. In any case, this does not mean that the giant from Cupertino himself does not play with such ideas and does not pay attention to them. Quite the contrary. The well-known Patently Apple portal recently drew attention to an interesting patent mentioning Apple Pencil support for Mac. Even in this case, the upper row of function keys should disappear, which would be replaced by a space for storing a stylus, where touch sensors replacing those keys would be projected at the same time.

However, it is customary for technology giants to register various patents on a fairly regular basis, which then never see their realization. That is why it is necessary to approach this application with a distance. Anyway, the fact that Apple has at least considered a similar idea means only one thing - there is a target audience in the market for something like this. However, as already mentioned, whether we will ever see something like this is unclear for the time being.
