Vratislav Holub On the occasion of the developer conference WWDC 2021, Apple revealed new operating systems. Of course, iOS 15, which brought a number of interesting novelties, got the limelight. This system has been available to the public for some time, and even today we already have its fourth version - iOS 15.4 - which has unlocked almost the latest news. Face ID support in combination with a mask/respirator has finally arrived. For domestic Apple users, iOS 15 no longer offers more options, and in theory they can wait for a new version. But this does not apply to users from the United States, where they are still waiting for one essential function, which was officially introduced almost a year ago at the aforementioned WWDC keynote.

During the presentation of the new system, the Cupertino giant revealed an interesting option, when it will be possible to add a driver's license in digital form to the native Wallet, thanks to which, in theory, it does not need to be carried with you and you can do with just an iPhone. But this gadget is not available yet.
Is Apple in trouble or just taking its time?
That the function is not available in our region, ie in Europe, is no surprise. After all, for this reason, Apple directly emphasized that the novelty will first start in the United States of America in selected states. Since then, however, we have had no further information about the function. Many fans therefore expected that support would come with the currently released iOS 15.4 system, but the first beta versions already disproved this. So it is not yet clear when the users there will actually see it.
iOS 15.4: Face ID now works with a mask
But the problem probably won't be on Apple's side. Preparing the operating system to be able to store the driver's license and display it in the native Wallet is no obstacle for the company. On the contrary, they are more likely to be found in the legislation of individual states, which are not prepared for a similar transformation into a digital form. The system as such already exists. Currently, it is the turn of the American states.
Digital identity card with us too
For this reason, it can also be expected that in our regions we will have to wait a few more days for the digital identity card. This topic is the subject of various debates, but implementation is still in sight. On the other hand, in the online environment we can use, for example, our bank identity to communicate with authorities and institutions, but in the real world, we still have no way to replace a traditional "card" in the form of a citizen's or driver's license.
