We recently you informed in detail about Apple's controversial decision to strip its 39 laptops, desktops and monitors of the prestigious EPEAT environmental certification. There is no point in reiterating the supposed reasons and consequences. The wave of criticism and resentment from the general public has forced Apple's management to think, and the result is a complete change in the attitude of this Californian corporation.

For many, the "green" certificate is a very important aspect. As I mentioned in the previous article, EPEAT was also the key for Apple to dominate the field of American education and federal, state or municipal authorities. These circumstances forced Apple representatives to issue a press release two days after de-registering those 39 products from the EPEAT program. Apple is trying to convince the public that withdrawing from EPEAT essentially means nothing and that the company's environmental policy does not change in any way.

Apple has a comprehensive approach to environmental protection and all our products meet the strictest standards, which is confirmed by the Energy Star 5.2 award directly from the US government. We honestly publish all information about the greenhouse gas emissions of all our products on our website. Apple products also excel in other important areas of environmental protection that EPEAT does not consider, such as the thorough removal of toxic substances.

However, events took a turn for the worse, and on Friday, July 13, an open letter was published in which Bob Mansfield, Vice President of Hardware Engineering, admits the mistake and announces a return to certification.

We have recently heard from many loyal customers and fans about their disappointment at the fact that we have had our products removed from the EPEAT eco registers. I admit it was a mistake. As of today, all eligible Apple products will once again carry the EPEAT certification.

It is important to show that our commitment to environmental protection has never changed and is still as strong as ever. Apple makes products that are the most environmentally friendly in their industry. In fact, Apple's engineering teams have been working incredibly hard on the green side of our products, and much of our progress is even beyond the criteria required to achieve EPEAT certification.

For example, Apple has become an innovator in removing harmful toxins such as brominated flame retardants and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). We are the only company that comprehensively reports the greenhouse gas emissions of all its products, taking into account the entire product life cycle. In addition, we try to limit the use of plastics as much as possible in favor of materials that are more recyclable and more durable.

We make the most energy efficient computers in the world and our entire range meets the strict ENERGY STAR 5.2 standard. Our relationship with the EPEAT group has become even better as a result of our recent experience and we are already looking forward to further cooperation. Our goal, in cooperation with EPEAT, will be to improve and tighten the IEEE 1680.1 standard, on which the entire certification is based. If the standard is perfected and other important criteria for obtaining the certificate are added, this ecological award will have even more power and value.

Our team prides itself on creating products that everyone can be proud to own and use.

Bob
