Charging the Apple Watch is handled by a magnetic cradle, which just needs to be clipped to the back of the watch. Although at first glance this method appears to be relatively comfortable and practical, unfortunately it also has its dark side, due to which Apple practically locks itself into its own trap. Already in the case of the Apple Watch Series 3, the Cupertino giant indirectly indicated that support for the Qi standard could finally come. iPhones rely on it, among other things, and it is the most widespread method for wireless charging worldwide. However, Apple is forging its own path.

According to available information, the Apple Watch charger is based on Qi technology, which Apple only modified and improved for its needs. At the core, however, these are very similar methods. Returning to the mentioned Apple Watch Series 3, it is necessary to mention that this generation supported charging with some Qi chargers, which naturally brought with it a number of questions. However, time flies and we haven't seen anything like it since. Is it actually a good thing that the giant is making his own way, or would it be better if he united with the others?

Locked in his own trap

Several experts have already argued that the longer Apple waits with the transition, the worse things will actually be for it. Of course, for us, regular users, it would be best if the Apple Watch could also understand the regular Qi standard. We can find it in practically every wireless charger or stand. And this is exactly the problem. Manufacturers must therefore decide what part of the charging stand they sacrifice in favor of the Apple Watch charger, or whether they will incorporate it at all. The previously announced AirPower charger, where we did not see a traditional charging cradle, was a certain hint of change. But as we all know, Apple could not complete its development.

For now, it looks like there will come a time when Apple will have to unite with others and bring a more universal solution. However, this will understandably create a number of problems. Ensuring a complete transition may not be completely easy, especially taking into account the back of the watch itself, where, among other things, there are a number of important sensors for monitoring the user's health. These could theoretically cause considerable trouble. On the other hand, Apple, as the most valuable company in the world, certainly has the resources for the best possible solution. Would you like to be able to charge your Apple Watch on any wireless charger, or are you satisfied with the current solution in the form of a proprietary magnetic charging cradle?
