For the purposes of its Apple TV+ streaming service, Apple has prepared its own series and assembled its own production team. But before that happened, the company repeatedly tried to buy out already existing companies or studios. It was, for example, Imagine Entertainment - a company founded by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer.

A deal that didn't happen

In early 2017, Apple Insider reported that Apple was reportedly in talks with several Hollywood companies about the project, which was eventually unveiled as Apple TV+ this June. The Cupertino giant was supposed to be in talks with Sony, Paramount, or the aforementioned company Imagine Entertainment. He also confirmed the news at the time Bloomberg, according to which the agreement with the last-named entity took on the most concrete shape.

At that time, Eddy Cue dealt mainly with the company. Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, who were at the head of it, flew to Cupertino to introduce some terms to Apple's management. Tim Cook also appeared at the meeting. However, Howard and Grazer finally came to the conclusion that they did not want to become employees of such a large company, and the agreement fell through.

A show worth millions

It wasn't long before Apple hired Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht from Sony. It was these two who came up with an offer for the star-studded series The Morning Show. Apple liked the offer so much that it offered a budget of $250 million along with a million-per-episode fee for both leads. In addition, Apple also agreed to film the first two series without having to shoot the pilot.

A little later, the company also agreed to produce the series For All Mankind. Erlicht and Van Amburg are said to have become so involved in working with Apple that they quickly adopted Apple code names and established non-disclosure agreements, which became a thorn in the side of some of their colleagues.

"Zack and I know how to create a premium, high-quality, great show," Erlicht said confidently at a Hollywood premiere this month, adding that he had no idea the two could also build Apple's premium service from the ground up.
