Problematic keyboards are the most frequently used term in connection with all MacBooks introduced in the last four years. Although Apple defended itself for a long time and claimed that at least the third generation of its butterfly keyboard should be problem-free, it has now finally admitted its defeat. Today, the company has extended its free keyboard replacement program to all MacBook models it has on offer.

The program now includes not only MacBooks and MacBook Pros from 2016 and 2017, but also MacBook Air (2018) and MacBook Pro (2018). A certain icing on the cake is that the program also applies to the MacBook Pro (2019) presented today. In short, the free replacement program can be used by owners of all Apple computers who have a keyboard with a butterfly mechanism of any generation and have a problem with the keys getting stuck or not working, or with repeatedly typing characters.

List of MacBooks covered by the program:

  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, early 2015)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, early 2016)
  • MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017)
  • MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
  • MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, four Thunderbolt 3 ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)

However, the new MacBook Pro 2019 models would no longer suffer from the above-mentioned problems, because according to Apple's statement to The Loop magazine, the new generation is equipped with keyboards made of new materials, which should significantly reduce the occurrence of errors. Owners of MacBook Pro (2018) and MacBook Air (2018) can also get this improved version - service centers will install it in these models when repairing keyboards as part of the free exchange program.

Therefore, if you own one of the MacBooks that is newly included in the program and you have experienced one of the above problems related to the keyboard, then do not hesitate to take advantage of the free replacement. Just search based on your location the nearest authorized service and arrange a repair date. You can also take the computer to the store where you bought it, or to an authorized Apple dealer, such as iWant. Complete information on the free keyboard replacement program is available on Apple's website.
