The camera of the new iPhone 5 may not be as perfect as it seems. Many users report that they see a purple glow in their photos in overlit areas. However, Apple refuses to take this as a bug and advises users: "Aim your camera differently."
One of the readers of the server received such an answer Gizmodo, who was troubled by the problem, so he wrote to Apple. The full response looks like this:
Dear Matt,
our engineering team just forwarded this information to me to recommend to you when shooting point the camera away from a prominent light source. The purple glow that appears in the images is considered for normal iPhone 5 camera behavior. If you want to contact me (…), my email is ****@apple.com.
Regards,
Debby
AppleCare Support
At the same time, Matt van Gastel initially learned something completely different from Apple. After a long phone call with support, he was told that the purple glow was a problem that shouldn't occur on the latest Apple phone:
I was originally told that that's weird and shouldn't happen. My call then went to a higher up who also said this shouldn't be happening. I sent him some pictures of the mentioned problem and he then forwarded them to the engineers.
So the answer ended up being quite different, as Apple writes to Matt in the email mentioned above. However, one thing is now certain – the iPhone 5 has problems with purple glow, and there is probably no way to solve this problem. Some speculate that the sapphire glass covering the lens is to blame. However, Apple has simple advice: This is normal, you're just holding the camera wrong.
[do action=”update”/]Our readers report that none of them have experienced a similar problem. So it means that the "purple light case" will definitely not affect all new iPhone 5s, but probably only some pieces. Still, Apple's reasoning is strange.
Trouble after trouble, is it just me or is Apple going down the drain? And they really don't help themselves by looking for excuses instead of solving problems...
Another idiot who makes bubbles takes beautiful pictures. Happy owner of the black 64G version. ;-)
so
Well, I'm really pleased.. A person has been waiting for a phone for a year and so far it seems that every day I'll be waiting for the next one or I really don't know..
Well, you certainly won't have to wait for the next one. This is again an inflated bubble. I myself own an iP5 black, tested shooting against the sun and no problem. Like previous iPhone5 owners discussing… So inflated bubble….
So we already have scuffgate, so why not purplegate? :D
It's like in the case of the iPhone 4 when the signal was lost and Apple also pretended to hold the phone in the left hand in a strange way or how it was then again this but I think I can see some kind of patch and the problem will be solved :-) but it's a funny joke but it will get better maybe take pictures at night
It's probably better to go back to the first grade of primary school...
Personally, I have to say that I don't have a problem similar to the one in the photos in the article. I specifically tried it and the purple one is nowhere to be found.
iPhone 5 16gb, black
I don't know, but if someone shoots an unprotected lens directly into the sun, they probably don't have it right in their head... :)))
Tested - White iPhone 5 64GB - photo without any problems. So it won't be a slide :-)
Well, Matt should hurry up and quickly change his phone and drink an S triple. He can then use it as a phone and as a raft paddle! :)
It looks like some kind of fake from Samsung or something :-) I haven't noticed any problems here.
full bars!
We have not experienced any such problems on our company mobiles. Tested on 3 iPhone 5s a while ago thanks to the bright sun here in Prague.
I confirm that I have no such problem on my iPhone 5.
Now I tried from the balcony, of course, with the Ufon 5 and did I feel fine..

apple what would you like..,…
My iPhone 5 16 GB didn't experience any problem, I must say it's a great apple phone !!!! Just perfection!! Maybe the maps, but you can search in google maps beautifully in safari, so until you improve the maps, you can use the bookmark on google maps :-)
Pruser after Pruser, "...gate" everywhere?
I would look at it from another side. Apple is the lifeblood of the media. The iPhone is Apple's lifeblood. I don't want to bring down any problem, but if any problem comes up, you'll notice an avalanche of articles around it. Because every article and discussion under it will sell a lot of advertising. I do not want to come across Jablicker in any way, for me it is essentially a serious information website, unlike others with tabloid editorial and totalitarian management/censored discussion.
It's just shaking with a donkey, that it's aluminum, which is strangely scratchable, maps that unfortunately did not live up to expectations and everyone immediately shouts "where is uncle Google? what are we going to do now?", now it's the purple glow around the sun again.
As I read the comments here, I'm starting to feel ashamed that I have an iPhone...
You are crazy, there is no better phone !!
I have no problem with the phone, just with the intelligence of some owners.
I would say that people who criticize the iPhone and anything else are still using Android :-D and don't even have an iPhone, I can't imagine a school without an iPhone and an iPad !!!' I wouldn't have done it without them :-D "iPhone makes school easier" :-P
Karl, read that again: "I don't have a problem with the phone, just the intelligence of some of the owners"
iPhone 5, 16 GB Black. It does not take any purple photos, it is undamaged from the factory. The "cases" almost broke me this year, but I finally took the risk and bought it. And well I did, again it's just a media massage.
You could have missed that introduction - other than the 16GB black one is not yet sold in the Czech Republic.
Why wouldn't it sell otherwise? I have an iPhone 5 in white color 64GB from Vodafone.
And have you seen the guy selling the 16 GB version here in the bazaar for 30 thousand? :-) To get your hands on it, it hangs by the balls in the bow.
And why? So don't buy it for that price, I also don't buy things that I think are overpriced. But it never occurred to me that I would beat up VW or Škoda advertisers :-D
At least people learn to take photos of sunburns and backlight :D
Unfortunately, I am observing this problem. iPhone 5 64gb black. All you have to do is aim it at the fluorescent lamp and it throws purple exactly like in the photo in the introduction
It's the price of the fact that the space between the sensor and the lens is extremely small. The sensor is glossy, so it reflects light in this specific color and thus "sees itself" in the lens. Of course, a lens with such a high aperture of f 2,4 only allows this. For example, such a canon s90 makes even more erratic veils directly from the lens at f 2 - 2,2, and no one has ever complained. You can still shade the sharp side light with your hand, extend the exposure, add an aperture, put sunglasses in front of the glass, sometimes you just need to take pictures from the shadows, etc.
I'm just waiting until I finally get my hands on the iPhone 5 and stop reading all this crap. Until then, I will still have to suffer that everything is "bad" about him. :D
Fifty smart people, but no one, not even high-ranking comrades in Apple's marketing department, will figure out the real cause. Reach for the butter, then reach for the water in the sink with that finger and look against the sun. And try it with lard, with oil, with gasoline, with spring. Each substance creates a different film in which the rays are refracted differently. So those of you who don't have spots on your photos, treat your phone well and don't roll the lens with your greasy fingers. And whoever has purple spots should at least wipe the lens occasionally.

+1! :-)
At least you don't have to install Instagram
At least you don't have to install Instagram
I just tried to simulate the problem with my iPhone 5 64GB. I aimed at five different bulbs, and if I try hard enough, one will have a slight purple tinge to it. However, it takes practice. Nothing to solve in my opinion.
