Big things may be on the horizon for music streaming that could significantly affect the entire market. Apple by The Wall Street Journal is discussing a possible acquisition of rival service Tidal.

No exact conditions have yet been established and The Wall Street Journal cites unnamed sources as saying that everything is just in the early days. It is not certain that such a deal will take place at all, which was also confirmed by a spokesperson for Tidal, who said that he has not yet met with Apple regarding this matter.

However, there is no doubt that a music streaming service led by the world-famous rapper Jay-Z would definitely fit in the shop of the Cupertino giant.

The reason for such an acquisition is mainly due to the fact that Tidal has a strong bond with important artists who present their albums exclusively on this service, which in nowadays it is becoming a new trend.

Among them are, for example, Chris Martin, Jack White, but also rap star Kanye West or pop singer Beyonce. Although the last two mentioned artists made their new albums ("The Life of Pablo" and "Lemonade") available for Apple's music platforms, they had their premiere exclusive time on Tidal.

The Californian company would significantly improve itself within Apple Music with this move. Not only would it have other well-respected artists in the music industry alongside Drake in its repertoire, but it would also be able to compete more significantly with its Swedish rival, Spotify.
