Apple has added a new option to set restrictions for the highly anticipated iOS 4.1. An optional restriction applies to multiplayer games for Game Centrum.

Restrictions can be found on your device under settings/general/restrictions and allow companies (parents) who buy iPhones for their employees (children) to restrict the use of certain apps.

Currently, you can set restrictions for:

  • safari,
  • YouTube
  • iTunes
  • Installing apps,
  • Camera,
  • location,
  • Allowed content - in-app purchases, ratings, music and podcasts, movies, TV shows, apps.

The Game Center was originally supposed to be available with iOS 4.0, but Apple eventually reconsidered its plans and determined that it would only be available in iOS 4.1 and only for the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3rd generation. This hub is for tracking game results and leaderboards, but you can also find and add other users for group play.

You can take advantage of the added "multiplayer games" restriction now if you have a developer account and the latest iOS 4.1 beta installed on your device. Us more ordinary users without a developer account have to wait for the official release of iOS 4.1, which is approximately planned for the turn of September/October.
