Apple relaunched its website shortly after lunch today and visitors were treated to a surprise in the form of brand new iPads. As we wrote in this article, Apple today introduced and started selling the new 10,5″ iPad Air and the small 7,9″ iPad Mini. However, one iPad also disappeared from the menu – the original 10,5″ iPad Pro.

The 10,5″ iPad Pro was introduced by Apple in June 2017 and since last year has been sold alongside the third generation of iPads with the Pro moniker, at a discounted price. However, due to the new iPad Air presented today, it was pointless to stay in the offer and therefore its sale ended today.

The new 10,5″ iPad Air is less than four thousand cheaper than the 10,5″ iPad Pro. Compared to the two-year-old model, it has a newer A12 Bionic processor. The new Air, on the other hand, is behind in the area of the display, where the lamination has remained, but the higher refresh rate ProMotion has disappeared. The new Air also has two stereo speakers, instead of four on the original Pro model. The new iPad Air, like the older Pro, supports the 1st generation Apple Pencil. The quality of the camera and flash is also slightly worse on the new Air.

As for the performance itself, we will have to wait for the exact numbers. The 10,5″ iPad Pro featured an A10X Fusion processor, while the new Air has the A12 Bionic from the latest iPhones built into it. Geekbench shows that the A12 Bionic is about 20% more powerful. But the question is how Apple tuned this originally iPhone processor for the larger and better heat-dissipating iPad chassis. Regarding the size of the operating memory, this information is not yet available.
