Last week we wrote about the fact that it is still possible to downgrade from the then current version of iOS 11.2 to the previous versions marked 11.1.1 and 11.1.2. Just in this article, we wrote that it is only a matter of time before Apple stops signing these builds and returning to earlier versions will not be possible. Since then, Apple has released new version iOS 11.2.1, which is currently the most recent. During the weekend, Apple stopped signing older versions of iOS, so rollback is not possible. This was done primarily for security reasons and also because older builds are often the way to release a jailbreak.

The oldest version of iOS that you can currently downgrade to is iOS 11.2. So keep that in mind if you're still running on an older version. You can track the current status of signed versions for your specific device at this site.

For regular users, a software downgrade is something they will probably never come across. This step is usually resorted to by those for whom updating to a newer version has caused some critical problem with their device. Older software versions are most often used to jailbreak and thus serve as a kind of gateway to this world. However, the jailbreak community today is not as strong as it used to be. Apple doesn't help it much either by "clipping" older versions of the software quite quickly.

As for the jailbreak, it is currently done on version 11.2.1. But behind it are security experts who were just looking for potential holes in the system's security. It is therefore not expected to be published. However, what has long been speculated about is a jailbreak for version 11.1.2 and older. It should have been in the works for several weeks now, and according to many, it should be published in the near future. If that happens, are you planning to jailbreak iOS 11 or have no reason to?
