Jan Zdarsa So the next Apple event is behind us and I have to say that the performance turned out similar to the Let's Rock event - the speculations were confirmed and Apple did not come with any surprises. But I'm certainly not disappointed!
Let's start with what is probably of least interest to readers of this display, new Apple Cinema LED Display 24″. This is (surprisingly) the most advanced display Apple has ever created. It fits perfectly with the new line of Macbooks – aluminum design, LED display, 1920×1680 resolution, front completely made of glass, camera, microphone, speakers, 3 USB ports and Mini DisplayPort. Its You can power the Macbook via the connector directly from this monitor. The price has been set at $899 and requires the new line of Macbooks with a Mini DisplayPort connector (also applies to the Air and Pro). It will be available from November. Who was the next shaving master? Macbook Air received changes. It's still the thinnest, ultra-portable laptop around. But this time he got a bigger hard drive (possibility of having a 128GB SSD drive), andž 4x faster Nvidia 9400M graphics and more computing power in the form of new processors. It still weighs 1,36 kg and the battery lasts up to 4,5 hours. Its price starts at $1799 with a 120GB (4200rpm) hard drive.
But we were more interested new Macbook. Apple deployed a very cool design known from the iMacs - completely aluminum with an all-glass display and a black frame. Apple also created a complete new production process – the chassis is made from a single block of aluminum (speculation about the term Brick confirmed). That's how they can create the chassis is not only stronger, but also lighter, which was also confirmed by the journalists present after Steve Jobs let Macbook parts circulate. The biggest advantages certainly include the new chassis, MiniDisplay port for Video-out, Nvidia 9400M, which does not perform badly at all against the 8600GT, known from the old Macbook Pro series, it is roughly 45% slower, but about 4-5x faster than the old Intel solution. The Macbook also received an LED display and a large glass trackpad without a button (the button is the entire surface of the trackpad). According to first impressions, you won't miss the button at all. It doesn't crumple when you don't want it to and, on the contrary, reacts perfectly when you need it. But what freezes many A LOT is the absence of a FireWire port! As it seems, it remained only in the Macbook Pro version. Another big unpleasant surprise comes in the form of backlit keyboard. The Macbook finally got this feature, but unfortunately only the one with a higher configuration, so watch out for that!
If you don't like the new design or want to save money, there is no problem to buy the old model in the $1099 version (weakest) with a discount of $100 dollars. Well, nothing much, but I understand that this successful model did not want to leave Apple just like that, especially when it is making so much money now.
The new models are set up like this:
– $1299. 13.3″ Glossy Display, 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 160GB HD
– $1599. 13.3″ Glossy Display, 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 250GB HD
The graphics have 256MB of DDR3 memory, which is shared with the RAM memory. Trackpad allows gestures with up to four fingers. With two fingers we can scroll or enlarge / reduce / rotate photos. With three fingers, we will primarily move to, for example, the next photo. Four fingers are used to click, double-click and drag, for example, icons. This little thing weighs just over 2 kilos and lasts 5 hours on battery. Of course, the SuperDrive mechanism (for burning DVDs) is the basis. The Macbook will be available in early November. Of course, he excited me the most Macbook Pro. As a result, we got similar great features as the small Macbook, with the difference that the Macbook Pro has 2 Nvidia graphics cards. One "integrated" Nvidia 9400M and the other dedicated (powerful) 9600GT. We'll have to wait a while to see how this graphics card fares with performance, but we already know how it fares with endurance. When using the 9400M graphics, it lasts about 5 hours, when using the 9600M 4 hours. This is a solid foundation, although I expected more. But Firewire 800 is not missing here port. We will no longer have to run to the service center to replace the hard drive, it is also available for us users without any problems.

In the right picture you can notice the battery status indicator in detail. The new model weighs approximately 2,5 kg. The hard drive is only 5400rpm in the basic configurations, and 7200rpm can be purchased as an option. I expected that such a fast disk would already be in the base, after all it is the Pro version. But what some people will definitely not like is that Apple does not offer matte displays, shiny only. He later responded to this topic in the style that matte displays are not needed, just increase the brightness. I like my glossy display very much, but some people will certainly not welcome this "newness", especially those from the graphic arts sector. The new Macbook Pro is available from tomorrow. Apple also did not forget to mention how the new models are more environmentally friendly and received a gold rating in EPEAT. Steve Jobs also didn't forget to make a joke during the presentation when he said what they won't talk about today "110/70.. that's Steve Jobs' blood pressure.. we won't talk about Steve Jobs' health anymore", which got a lot of laughter and applause.
This event was also exceptional for me because I got to experience what online news is like. Well, I have to say that I expected more from myself.
