Philip Houska Apple presented new computers today, and the main star of the evening was the MacBook Pro, although this is mainly due to the fact that the Californian company did not show any other machines. However, Apple focused significantly on the MacBook Pro, most of all on the new touch panel above the keyboard, which represents the biggest innovation.
The new MacBook Pro traditionally comes in 13-inch and 15-inch variants, and its main domain is the Touch Bar, a touch panel that functions not only as a replacement for manual function keys, but also as a place from which various applications can be controlled. It can be used in system applications as well as professional ones, such as Final Cut, Photoshop or the Office suite. When writing messages, it will be able to suggest words or emojis like in iOS, in the Photos application it will be possible to easily edit photos and videos directly from the Touch Bar.
The Touch Bar, which is made of glass, powered by OLED technology and can be controlled with multiple fingers at once, also has a built-in Touch ID sensor for unlocking the computer or paying with Apple Pay. In addition, Touch ID can recognize the fingerprint of multiple owners and log each person into the appropriate account, which is very useful if several people use the MacBook.

The good news is also that this is the faster and more reliable second-generation Touch ID that the latest iPhones and iPads have. As in them, also in the MacBook Pro we find a security chip, which Apple refers to here as T1, in which fingerprint data is stored.
MacBook Pros also change shape after a few years. The entire body is made of metal and compared to previous generations, it is a significant reduction in dimensions. The 13-inch model is 13 percent thinner and has 23 percent less volume than its predecessor, the 15-inch model is 14 percent thinner and 20 percent better in terms of volume. Both MacBook Pros are also lighter, weighing 1,37 and 1,83 kilograms respectively. Many users will also welcome the arrival of a space gray color that complements the traditional silver.
After opening the MacBook, users are offered a twice larger trackpad with Force Touch technology and a keyboard with a wing mechanism, which is known from the twelve-inch MacBook. Unlike it, however, the new MacBook Pro is equipped with the second generation of this keyboard, which should have an even better response.
An important chapter of the new machine is also the display, which is the best that has ever appeared on an Apple notebook. It has a brighter LED backlight, a higher contrast ratio and above all supports a wide color gamut, thanks to which it can display photos even more faithfully. Shots from iPhone 7 will look just as great on it.
Of course, the insides were also improved. The 13-inch MacBook Pro starts with a 5GHz dual-core Intel Core i2,9 processor, 8GB of RAM, and Intel Iris Graphics 550. The 15-inch MacBook Pro starts with a 7GHz quad-core i2,6 processor, 16GB of RAM, and Radeon Pro 450 graphics. 2GB of memory. Both MacBooks start with 256GB of flash storage, which should be up to 100 percent faster than before. Apple promises that the new machines will last up to 10 hours on battery.
Changes also occurred on the sides, where new speakers were added and at the same time several connectors disappeared. The new speakers will offer up to twice the dynamic range and more than half the volume. As for the connectors, the offer has been significantly reduced and simplified there. Apple now only offers four Thunderbolt 3 ports and a headphone jack in the MacBook Pro. The four mentioned ports are also compatible with USB-C, so it is possible to charge the computer through any of them. As in the 12-inch MacBook, the popular magnetic MagSafe comes to an end.
Thanks to the powerful Thunderbolt 3 interface, Apple promises high performance and the ability to connect demanding peripherals (for example, two 5K displays), but this also means that many users will need additional adapters. For example, you can't even charge an iPhone 7 in a MacBook Pro without it, because you won't find a classic USB in it. There is also no SD card reader.
The prices are not too friendly either. You can buy the cheapest 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar for 55 crowns. The cheapest fifteen-inch model costs 990 crowns, but due to the still very expensive SSDs or in the case of better internals, you can easily attack the hundred thousand mark. The Czech Apple Online Store promises delivery in three to four weeks.

That XPS13 with a QHD+ panel costs around 42K, but it has a terrible keyboard, faulty connectors, performance is weaker than the basic MBP13 mid2014, another disadvantage is that it has Windows, but there is also a version with Ubuntu, it is noticeably noisier than Macbooks.
So for me, two fundamental questions and one - two comments. Question 1: what is the maximum opening angle of the laptop. 2: If there is a volume control on the touch panel and the menu for the active application is always displayed there, it means that if I work in Word and spotify is running in the background, then if I want to mute the music, move the song, etc. it won't work at the moment, because I will have the controls for word (photoshop, whatever) displayed there? – a separate question then is how it will all work with installed windows.
There is probably no point in discussing the price, but what is a big disappointment for me is the battery life. Microsoft is at 16 hours with new books, here it's still 10 :(
On the right side of the Touch Bar is the Control Strip, where these system buttons for adjusting brightness, volume, etc. are located. The Control Strip should always be visible next to the strip of buttons that each application will have its own, but I can't find yet whether the Control Strip will be can be closed by developers. Optionally, the user can remove it himself.
EDIT: I already read the developer documentation and that Control Strip should always be displayed unless the user turns it off.
I don't know which of the Czech people will spend 55 for the starting price of a laptop, I'm rather puzzled by the ports, but I see it as a good tactic on the part of Apple to earn more on reductions, etc. Well, it's interesting, but they can do it with this price tag only allow it in the USA, but certainly not the starting model 55000 here :D. Yeah, the touchbar looks interesting. The girl from Adobe at Apple's presentation worked with it as if she had it there forever :D The reduction tortures us more and more. They are not mainly even reductions (passive), such as HDMI-DP, but controllers, thunderbolt is basically PCIe on a Mini DP connector, so the reduction to 1Gbit RJ-45 is actually a network card. Which partly explains the price. Progressive miniaturization simply pushes peripherals out of the computer, paradoxically.

Connectivity - I'm on a roll. On the one hand, I think USB C is the right way to go. On the other hand, it would probably limit me quite a bit and I would miss Magsafe. No matter what, the number is essentially the same - one connects the display, the charger, and two ports remain, as now.
I would probably wait a year or two before the USB C thing starts up, then maybe. But the price is so brutal that I'm deciding on a Mac Pro or iMac and something older portable.
A glossy display would be fine if it had a perfect multi-layer anti-reflective coating, if it can be done on optics in lenses (for about 50 years), why wouldn't it be possible on straight glass that covers the display? The price is already quite high, so a few USD up would be fine. External keyboard in combination or the incompatibility with the touchbar occurred to me immediately during the presentation. The number of ports remains and does not remain. If I now connect another display (HDMI) and a charger (MagSafe), I will still have two thunderbolts and two 15 USB, i.e. 3.0 ports (on a 4″ rMBP). Totally agree, I was just secretly hoping that they would introduce the 14 and 16 variant after all. The 14 would allow a dedicated gpu to fit into the body, and the 16 would fill the gap after the disappeared version 17, which many people still miss. The whole TouchBar thing has nothing to do with productivity. Let me explain. The problem is its very nature – its dynamic content changes all the time, forcing you to constantly look at what key/glyph you're actually pressing. Any eye movement off the screen is a disaster to serious productivity. Even Microsoft understands this unveiling Surface Dial controller a day ago.
These MacBooks' biggest advertised feature will lower your productivity. Instead of giving the solid Fn keys more functions, they removed them. Now that's an applause-worth-approach. The TouchBar is just a toy. Wake up, people :-)

A professional laptop for 100 without connectivity to the outside world? I don't know anyone around me who uses flash drives with USB-C. None of the business partners has yet pulled anything like that. What about thunderbolt reduction - does it exist yet? I won't connect a flash drive with a classic USB, I won't connect an Apple optical drive, I won't connect an external thunderbolt drive, I won't connect a data projector or an external monitor... I couldn't have said it better. I use NB 90% as an easily portable desktop (permanently connected power supply, USB key/mouse, external display, USB drive for backup via TimeMachine, etc.). I don't see where and how I would connect it all - I probably bought ten adapters ;-) And I don't buy the option of one adapter + USB hub - I haven't seen a USB hub yet that doesn't make some noise and doesn't cause "strange" behavior of the connected devices.

Macbooks don't seem expensive to me, no other laptop on the market has an aluminum unibody construction and comparable battery life, nor does Dell or Lenovo have similarly fast SSD drives.
That's a matter of perspective. Of course, the unibody construction is a brilliant idea and the fast SSD is great. My point is that those computers keep getting more expensive. When the first 13″ Retina started, it was around 40 thousand, 15″ with integrated graphics was for 50 and something, of course the BTO could easily climb to 80 and more. The 15″ 2015 model was about 62, the 2016 models start at 13″ for 46 and the 15″ at 74. And for that you get a beautiful machine, but you practically don’t connect anything to it. On a 13″ with two USB-Cs, nothing at all when one takes power. Also, at least the 3,5 mm audio jack remained. But it quietly no longer supports optical digital output. We just get less and less for more and more money. I don't like having reductions for everything, and a different one every few years.
They're just messing with us and they don't even try to pass it off as rain. Apple is no longer interested in any PRO sphere, they live from phones and tablets and the few snobs, heartthrobs, professionals, or the devil knows what to call the diverse group, they just quietly ignore.

Just got my brand new X1 Carbon (4gen 2016/20FB) with the 512 GB PCIe NVMe SSD (THNSN5512GPU7). Was expecting a blazing fast disk, but it felt sluggish something that AS SSD Benchmark confirms (see attachment).
According to the specs this drive should offer up to 2400 Mb/s read and 1500 Mb/s write. But I get 1800 MB/s read and abysmal 113 MB/s write.
Just look at YT for the first benchmarks, BlackMagic MBP13 Early2016 i5 2.0GHz and 256GB SSD has write around 1300Mb/s read 2000Mb/s vs Lenovo X1 1800 MB/s read and at least 113 MB/s write.
And keep in mind that we are comparing 256GB in the Macbook and 512GB in the Lenovo, logically the 512GB in the Macbook will be noticeably faster than the basic 256GB. So even with the double capacity advantage of Lenovo, the X1 Carbon was nowhere near attacking the speeds of the base MBP2016 variant, the reality is that the X1Carbon 512GB has the same write and read value as the base 120GB MBP13 mid2014…
So a mockery of Lenovo and the fools who buy it.

X1 Carbon loud cpu fan issues are quite enough, considering that we service Lenovo ones (unofficially), official Lenovo sends Thinkpads to Vienna at best, mostly to Poland.
The quality of today's Thinkpads is a little better than MSI (total sr4cka)... the increased noise of Thinkpads (in general) can never be adjusted so that the Thinkpad is as quiet as an MBP, but what can be done is to flash a modified firmware or play with the CPU FAN... anyway, it's sr4ní... and that belongs to Thinkpad... the biggest minus is the absence of OSX.
Well, the reality is what it is, Lenovo's SSD in all Thinkpads is objectively slower than Macbook Early 2015 and newer... and if I were to compare the same capacities, it is several years behind Apple.
The reason is simple, Lenovo installs a cheaper SSD, there is nothing more to it.

Ah yes... then the worst happened - again they succumbed to the senseless pressure of commerce - thinner - lighter - more expensive.
It can be assumed that the impacts will be clear:
– Even less expandable (who wouldn't want more RAM or SDD over time)
– Virtually certainly unrepairable (any malfunction = replacement of the entire electronics for an incredible amount of money)
– Shorter actual battery life (my 6 year old MBP17 had more actual battery life after that time (approx. 4 hours) than the last MBP (approx. 3 hours) – be careful, I'm not talking about using MBP by people who only have the WOW effect (=surfing) over the net), but about real work, when the computer is really computationally intensive)
– Overheating = horror – fans hardly ever stop during actual work
So for me the only real reason to stay with Apple is their macOS. Maybe over time macOS will also be updated in the same spirit as HW is updated - i.e. to appeal to a larger group of people who cannot understand more complex quality measures than weight, thickness, pixel density, ... so maybe after ten years I will return to Microshit Widlí.
I think the best part of the whole presentation was the foreigner Makato, who got free advertising :) but otherwise .. you keep telling yourself that it can't get any worse, but maybe we'll see for ourselves next time .. I hope that the current iron will last a few more years. .

After every keynote, they cry about how Apple doesn't innovate and when they present a computer that is miles away from the competition in terms of design, functionality and debugging and at the same time portability, we complain that it doesn't have a flash drive and I can't change the RAM after 5 years? The thing is, we've been using macOS for years and don't want to switch to Win. Another thing is that Apple used to make matte displays and now they don't make them anymore, that's the point. For example, I personally don't mind USB-C, and I wouldn't mind swappable RAM either, if it was possible to order a configuration with 32 GB of RAM. And if it is not possible to replace the SSD, then as a service technician I see it as a big mistake, because the disk can simply go bad over time, whether it is an HDD or an SSD. The big problem, in my opinion, is the price, which could have been really lower if only because there were times when the MacBook Pro was significantly cheaper.

I think the performance is good. I have two xeons clocked at 2.93 GHz. For this, they expand the card with Sata 3 that I have for SSD. I think it's a great machine for video editing as well. Otherwise, I installed a GTX 680 on the Mac.
I have some experience.. I got OSX in a laptop and also in a desktop PC.. it is important to choose the right kexts (controllers) and it runs like clockwork.. with the hardware you have right now it is a long way to go.. the most ideal is to assemble PC with 100% compatible components and you won't have any problems. Try the iAtkos distribution :)
I've had a Hackintosh for about 4 years now and no problems. Just buy compatible HW (https://www.tonymacx86.com/buyersguide/october/2016) and follow the instructions (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/unibeast-install-macos-sierra-on-any-supported-intel-based-pc.200564/). About 2 weeks ago I did a clean install of macOS and everything was done in about 30 minutes. Siri and imessage also work without problems. The system is stable, powerful and at a fraction of the price.
So what can't come to my mind, if they've already decided to push USB-C, why doesn't the iPhone have it either (in addition to the CC charging cable and charger with C)?

Well, for me the MBP 2015 is the last usable Mac. This is such a huge downgrade that it might not even be possible. TouchBar is a piece of crap that will make it impossible to control the volume etc. even blindly. The connectors are unusable. Overall, it's a worse model for me than its predecessor. Don't try Parallels at all, find the "playonmac" website, it's some BFU version of Wine and try running Corel under it, without a virtual machine and bootcamp.

In my opinion, Mac Pro mid 2010 and 2012 is still powerful enough. Well, it depends on the version. I bought a weaker 12-core Mac Pro mid 2010 in the spring and upgraded. I didn't even use the most powerful CPU that can be put there, but only the 3rd most powerful and I have enough power to give away and it's enough for my needs. Single-core is worth a bit of a fart, but I have Mulci-core better than about the first two or three versions of Mac Pro late 2013, so great. Yes, I have the web driver too, but I have an encrypted drive and sometimes I use bootcamp, so I need a card with EFI. Otherwise, I think the Mac Pro 5.1 will have a lifespan, so until 2020.

What should I do if the iPhone OTA update fails, something goes wrong and it wants to connect to iTunes with a cable? The iPhone didn't come with a cable to connect it to the new Macbook. Should I take the iPhone in for service? Or should I look for and buy a reducer if something goes wrong with Apple and the connection between the iPhone and Macbook is not resolved?

I would see the innovation of the MBPro series as follows: Butterfly keyboard, I would use the remaining few mm for the flashlight, otherwise I would not change the external dimensions. A better display, if they think it has to be, touch ID is cleverly incorporated somewhere, either somewhere in the corner or in the trackpad. I'd leave the ports as they are, or replace one TB2 with USB-C, because it's progressive, right. Leave the reader, leave HDMI, leave USB3 at least one. Leave MagSafe, of course. Deploy the latest Intel kit, such as BTO for 15″ to give up to 32 GB of RAM, in 13″ allow a quad core even at the cost of a lower clock rate due to cooling. Base 256 SSD for 13″, 512 for 15″. 15″ with integrated graphics as a base, with a dedicated higher version. Offer two colors of the case, silver and black (or dark gray), with the price going up only symbolically (because that's how the backpack costs) and people would fight over them :D Hell, wouldn't they want to hire me at Apple? I would show them the strategy :-))
Oh, and ditching the OLED nonsense, of course, that would save a lot of money.
