Tim Cook didn't stress journalists much during the traditional keynote today. He got to the core of the entire performance, namely the new iPad, after less than half an hour. Phil Schiller took the stage at the Yerba Buena Center and introduced the new iPad, which has a Retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and is powered by the new A5X chip.

It was with the Retina display that Phil Schiller started the whole performance. Apple has managed to fit an incredibly fine display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels into the nearly ten-inch iPad, which no other device can offer. The iPad now has a resolution that surpasses any computer, even an HDTV. Images, icons and text will be much sharper and more detailed.

To drive four times the pixels of the second generation iPad, Apple needed a lot of power. Therefore, it comes with a new A5X chip, which should ensure that the new iPad will be up to four times faster than its predecessor. At the same time, it will have more memory and a higher resolution than, for example, Xbox 360 or PS3.

Another novelty is the iSight camera. While the FaceTime camera remains on the front of the iPad, the back will be equipped with an iSight camera that will bring technology from the iPhone 4S to the apple tablet. The iPad thus has a 5-megapixel sensor with autofocus and white balance, five lenses and a hybrid IR filter. There is also automatic focus exposure and face detection.

The third-generation iPad can also record video in 1080p resolution, which looks really great on the Retina display. In addition, when the camera supports stabilizer and reduction of ambient noises.

Another new feature is voice dictation, which the iPhone 4S can already do thanks to Siri. A new microphone button will appear on the bottom left of the iPad keyboard, press which you just need to start dictating and the iPad will transfer your voice to text. For now, the iPad will support English, French, German, and now Japanese.

When describing the new iPad, we cannot leave out support for 4th generation networks (LTE). LTE supports transmission speeds of up to 72 Mbps, which is a huge speedup compared to 3G. Schiller immediately showed the difference to journalists - he downloaded 5 large photos over LTE before only one over 3G. For the time being, however, we can indulge ourselves at similar speeds. For America, Apple again had to prepare two versions of the tablet for different operators, but the new iPad is nevertheless ready for 3G networks around the world.

New technologies must certainly be very demanding on the battery, but Apple guarantees that the new iPad will last 10 hours without power, and 4 hours with activated 9G.

The iPad will again be available in black and white and will start at a price of $499, i.e. no change compared to the established order. We will pay $16 for the 499GB WiFi version, $32 for the 599GB version, and $64 for the 699GB version. Support for 4G networks will be for an additional fee, and the iPad will cost $629, $729, and $829, respectively. It will enter stores on March 16, but the Czech Republic is not included in this first wave. The new iPad should reach us on March 23.

The iPad 2 will also continue to be available, with the 16GB version with WiFi selling for $399. The version with 3G will then cost $529, the higher capacity will no longer be available.
