Dan Pražák Apple revives the iPod touch and somewhat unexpectedly introduces its seventh generation. The player gets a more powerful A10 Fusion processor and the ability to configure storage up to 256 GB. Thanks to higher performance, it thus supports new functions and offers additional possibilities of use.
The company launched the 7th generation iPod touch quietly with just a press release. It does not highlight the news in any way even on the main page of its official website. The mention that it is a new model is only found in the section Music, where the iPod touch icon is labeled Nový. On a separate page, Apple describes in more detail what the new player offers.
At the same time, Apple's tendencies are clear - the iPod touch is transforming more into a gaming device and is slowly leaving the position of a pocket player. The proof is just the presentation of the product on the official website, where the company highlights the A10 Fusion processor, which is able to deliver significantly more performance for playing games, even in augmented reality, i.e. with ARKit support. There is also a mention of the upcoming game service Apple Arcade, which will arrive in the fall of this year. In connection with music, specifically with Apple Music, up to 256 GB of storage is connected, which can accommodate more songs.

A more powerful processor and the option to configure a higher storage capacity are the only novelties that the iPod touch comes with. In other aspects, the seventh generation is no different from the previous sixth. The player still has the same design, 4-inch Retina display, Home button without Touch ID, 3,5 mm jack and Lightning connector. Apple did not even equip the novelty with stereo speakers, which have been offered by iPhones for almost three years. The device has the same dimensions as its predecessor and has also retained a thickness of only 6,1 mm.
The new iPod touch can currently be ordered from the Apple website, including the Czech Online Store. There are six color variants to choose from – gold, silver, space grey, pink, blue and a special PRODUCT(RED) red. There are three capacities on offer, where in addition to the new variant with 256GB of storage, a model with 32GB and 128GB of memory remains available. The price for the lowest capacity starts at 5 CZK, continues at 990 CZK and ends at 8 CZK in the case of the new variant.
I don't understand what the iPod is for. Turn on the Fly mode on your mobile and it will immediately be an iPod from an iPhone.
I expected frameless and a new buckle, but this is a mega fail for me
