Petr Škuta Apple has finally launched the fifth series of its smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 5. The watch brings the long-awaited feature of an always-on display.
Apple Watch Series 5 will immediately impress with the new Always On Retina display. Thanks to the special LTPO treatment, it is able to dynamically adjust the display frequency, which ranges from 1 to 60 Hz. The screen can thus be always on.
Using the gyroscope, the watch recognizes the tilt of the wrist and adjusts the frequency and brightness of the display. If they are not tilted to the face, the backlight will dim and the frequency will decrease. On the contrary, when the user is actively using and watching them, the brightness and frequency will increase.
Apple still promises all-day battery life, i.e. up to 18 hours of active operation on a single charge.
Titanium and ceramic
To use the new display, watchOS 6 will also have new watch faces. These will be adapted to the new LTPO dynamic frequency display. They also include selected complications that can constantly run on the screen.
As the icing on the cake, there is a built-in compass that uses new sensors in the Apple Watch Series 5. You can thus navigate as you know it from ordinary compasses.

Apple Watch Series 5 will be available in both regular aluminum chassis (silver, space gray and gold) and steel (gold, space gray and polished black). There will also be a new titanium version in bright and matte finishes. The white ceramic version is also celebrating its return.
Along with the new Apple Watch comes new bands and watch faces, including special Nike and Hermes editions.
The new Apple Watch will be able to call emergency lines around the world, i.e. in 150 countries, without an iPhone. However, this feature only applies to the LTE version.
Pre-orders for the GPS model begin today in 41 select countries and will be available on September 20. The dollar price starts at $399.

How about the LTE version with eSim? Neither in the Czech nor in the Irish Apple Store did I see any mention of it.
