For some time now, Apple fans have been talking about the development of an Apple game controller. This fact was already reported in June by a well-known and quite accurate leaker acting as @L0vetodream, according to whom Apple is working hard to bring this news to life. Moreover, he is not alone in this. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg and a leaker acting as Fudge reported something similar. Although these two people were not directly talking about the controller as such, they still touched on the subject.

Available patents demonstrate the development

Following the earlier reports of the leakers, the popular PatentlyApple portal, which tracks the registration of interesting patents by the Cupertino giant, also made itself heard. They managed to find an application referring to a possible future game controller from Apple, which explains its capabilities and design. In addition, a picture is also available (see below). According to him, it is obvious that in terms of appearance, the Apple company is inspired by Sony's DualShock. The gamepad could thus offer two joysticks in the middle, while there will be arrows on the top left and action keys on the top right. However, as far as joysticks are concerned, of course they shouldn't be quite ordinary. The patent says that Apple will hide a number of different sensors in them to capture the most accurate possible instructions from the user/player himself.

What will the apple driver be for?

But when we move beyond patents and speculation, we come across a strange question. What is the Apple game controller actually for? Nowadays, Apple operating systems already support gamepads from Sony, Microsoft, SteelSeries and many others with MFi (Made for iPhone) certification and beyond. The first thing you might think is that the giant wants to have something of its own in the menu and thus cover this segment as well. The apple company has been offering the Apple Arcade game platform for some Fridays, in which dozens of exclusive game titles are available directly for products with the bitten apple logo. Even so, these games are being beaten by the competition.

A popular gamepad for Apple devices is the SteelSeries Nimbus +

There is still one theory for what Apple could offer its own gamepad, which is based on the aforementioned claims from leakers such as Gurman or Fudge. According to them, Apple is developing a better version of Apple TV with a primary focus on gamers, for which the launch of its own gamepad would make more or less sense. But there are as many question marks hanging over the arrival of a similar device as there are about the controller itself. Currently, no one can say whether we will see something similar at all, or when.

But it is possible that thanks to the great performance and economy of Apple Silicon chips, the giant will be able to bring an Apple TV that could theoretically replace a certain kind of game console. But there are other uncertainties surrounding the possible games. At the moment, it is probably not worth speculating on something similar, as we are still far from a possible introduction/market launch. But one thing is certain - Apple is at least toying with a similar idea.
